Not sure if this is talk or tech, but i would like to get a few tips on selling my car. just some things i can do to get the most out of what i got. Here is what i have

1987 Mustang GT Hatch

Grey interior
D/S seat has a 1 1/2" tear along the side where the vynal (sp?) is. The seats are in o.k condition. back seat is in good condition. the guy said it has new carpet when i bought it, i gotta straighten out some spots though.
Ash tray is broken (will fix it before i go2 sell)
Same w/the console lid
I have two new 2 5/8" Autometer Ultra-Lite Gauges- Water Temp & Oil Psi
The stock gauges in the dash for the water temp and oil still work
White faced BBK 140mph gauges - Will calibrate speedo b4 i sell it
Hurst shifter w/ T-Handle
Alpine CD Player
Power windows, locks, lumbar still works

Paint N Body
The paint is done pretty bad. From a distance it looks great. But there are a couple runs in the clear, and a few peeling spots somewhere.
GT sideskirts are warped
Saleen Spoiler
Clear new headlights
Cervini 1.5" Cowl
aftermarket sunroof doenst leak though.

Drivetrain
3.73s
no onewheel wonders
had to replace the T-5, has a rattle @ high RPM - but in a test drive i wouldnt let em run it that high really.
Ford Racing 10.5" clutch
M.A.C shorty headers w/flows - dumps - sounds pretty mean
Ive been told its a jasper crate engine but i have no proof. you can tell the motor was pulled because he painted everything. valve covers, intake, lower intake, alt., power steering pump, painted a dark grey.
Strong runnin motor.
K&N panel filter +1000hp
new radiator hoses
new alt.
smog pump delete
subframes welded in

Stuff Ive Done
Autometer gauges $160
White face gauges $50
new alt $75
5 month old tires $400
new hoses $60
shifter $90
not a whole lot
replacement t-5 ($1300) i will never pay to do labor again, lesson learned

I paid $3500 w/o the stuff i have done to it. So i have $5600 in it. I would like to get some of my money back but i know how that goes.

Stuff i have to do before i put it up for sale
new shifter bezel-cracked
calibrate speedo
ashtray fix
console lid fix
get rid of the 10holes....if i can get my money back out for the rims

Im hoping to find a buyer that is new to Foxes that wont look @ the car in detail. like i did when i bought it. i bought it because it was a stang, with power options, a 5.0 w/ a 5speed and it was quick. (little did i know it was only the gears). its a good lookin car and its a stock motor with gears, i think i can sell it pretty well...or my dad, hes a salesman

i will post more pics tomorrow.

How much can i get for it, and any tips, suggestions will be appreciated. I might have forgotten a couple of things, i will post whatever i remember though.

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME

I think maybe you can get some more out of it. It would probably sell quicker with Ponies. I am one of those few people that like 10 holes, but it does not look right on a GT.

Just reread your post. I see you ditching the 10holes.

i guess it all depends on where you sell it; a dealer will give you less than the blue book value and turn around and sell it for three or more times what they gave you, and private investors who know nothing about stangs will turn away at the 140k miles, and the age. it would be best to try and sell it where there are a lot of automotive enthusists, like a drag racing or Ford event. i saw an 88 hatch in a little worse condition at Fun Ford and the guy wanted like 6k for it; but it only had about 110k miles. I think if you clean it up real nice you could get at least 4.5k for it.

It's essentially a stock '87 GT with gears. There are a few cosmetic things done to it, but like I said essentially stock. I think if you get $3500 for it, that would be fair. I bought a 1990 GT with 110k on it for $3700. All it had on it was a K/N filter. You may get lucky and get some one who really wants a stang - I would try it at $4500 and go from there. I doubt you will get many to bite at much above that. Sell it in autotrader perhaps

Good luck

Your car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. My suggestion is to look in the autotrader and other classifieds to see what prices are being asked for cars similar to yours. Keep in mind your probally going to have to come down a little to actually sell it, it's part of the game. Keep in mind it's a 17 year old car with over 140K miles on it. Mods, your better off taking them off and selling them seperatly. Mods can hurt the sellability of your car. No one wants to buy someone elses dogged project. Repairs don't mean crap as far as value. Sorry to say, but you'll be lucky to get more than $4K for it. From what I can tell so far, I might give $3K for it. No offence, but I look at the autotrader a lot and know what I can get for what, if you wouldn't take it, nothing personal, I'll just go to the next car on my list.
