Moving to a 2004 SVT Cobra from a 2007 Mustang GT

Hey everybody. This is my first post on the forum and I am very excited to be here. Basically wanted to get a few opinions on my next car purchase. I have very recently purchased a 2007 Mustang GT. It currently sits with about 22000 miles on it and a host of upgrades. Upgrades include a Whipple HO Supercharger from FRPP running on about 12.5 pounds, 4.10s, and lots of appearance upgrades. I have always wanted a 2004 SVT Cobra in black. I have found a few, but just wondering what you all think about the move from my current Mustang to a Cobra? The one I am looking at most in depth is $22999 with no mods other than a CAI and exhaust. It has 43003 miles on it. That brings me to my last question. That is not to many miles for that price is it? I think it is a pretty decent price as it is unmolested and for the most part unmodified. First, welcome aboard to SN.

That '04 sounds like a nice unmolested car - not sure if the pricing is "right," but someone else should be able to chime in with more info about the price range for a basically stock '04 at that price.

Are you prepared to take the hit in all of the mods you have invested with on your '07 GT ? Or do you plan on de-modding/selling off those parts to help offset the huge loss you would suffer? Disregard if you purchased the '07 already "modded," of course.

Just saying it wouldn't make a lot of sense, money-wise, if you were to get out from a modded '07 GT that you put a lot of money into recently - especially so since you stated you just "recently" purchased it.

That price is at the top of the range, the car needs to be pretty pristine to merit that.

You would be making a huge mistake. Did you know that your car was built in a brand new state of the art robotic factory whereas the car you think is so great was built at the old plant? In my opinion the tolerances and specs and general vehicle tightness were VASTLY improved after 2004.

However, the Cobra does look better...

My suggestion would be to sell your car yourself slowly for top dollar. Ask a way high price and take your time all the while paying it down and building more equity in the car. Then get a 2010 or 2011 Mustang. Do not take a step backwards.

I agree with Kilgore on this. But I also agree that the sn95s look better than the S197s or any retro car. So if you don't mind sacrificing build quality and everything for looks I say go for it. 40,000 miles only means the car has been broken in. I'm just not too sure about the asking price. Btw, with the cai and exhaust mods are you sure it doesn't have an upgraded pulley?

Thank you for the responses everybody. I checked out those pictures of the new Mustang, and they do look very nice. I checked and it does have an upgraded pulley on it as well. I will let you all know what happens when and if it happens. Thank you all very much.

The '03-'04 Cobra is arguably one of the nicest looking factory Mustangs built to date, but I think you're going to find it a let down over all to drive all after owning a blown S197. The S197 is already the best built Mustang to date and then you gave it the same kind of power output with the Whipple kit that you would see from a bolt on Cobra.

Its your money, but if it were me, I'd keep the GT.

That isn't a whole lot of miles for an '04. My '03 just turned 78,000 miles, although it gets driven back and forth to New Jersey from Toledo three or four times a year, usually ringing-up around 2500+ miles.

I don't think that those mods are that bad. They seem normal to me.

Could you put that particular Whipple on the Cobra? It would be the best up-grade that you could do, I think. You can get a lot more and safer horsepower out of the blower-friendly Cobra motor.

Either way, if the car is real clean, I don't think that the price is too bad. I am sure that you can negotiate it down somewhat.
