Paint and Body My car is finally home

I hope it all works out. That really looks like a lot of damage to me, and who knows if the wiring melted, fuel lines, etc. etc. If you get a good payoff you could either build this thing into a beast, or find another fox. I know I would be very sad if one of my cars got damaged like that.

Is that last picture a dent from something falling on the roof? The plastic piece that connects the lock cylinder to the rod probably melted. It must have gotten pretty hot to melt that much. I hope the insurance comes through for you.

My guess is that it will be a total loss.

if they do fix it, please inspect your brake hoses and calipers. excessive heat can weaken the rubber and you don’t want that kind of failure. Also consider if the tires took excessive heat damage.

it is fixable if you retain salvage, but you just need to go through it carefully.

I drove it out of the garage. Yes the dent is from a rafter falling on it. The tires look ok. And so does the engine and wiring.

This is the roof in the garage above the car.

You've got to save that car man. Check to see if you can buy it back from them if it is a total loss. I doubt it will be but that's up to them and how much you point out. Could make out with a decent check and still have your car.

I really want to keep the car as well as get it fixed. I chased that car for 20 years. Hopefully Hagerty does me right.

Keep your documentation and if there is a salvage title it won't matter much to a serious buyer. The thing that matters is if the car had major accident damage and was rebuilt. The damage to your car is really superficial. You are lucky the car came out without more damage.

I used to tow cars for Copart Auto Auctions. The cars that I had to drag out of peoples burned garages were always completely destroyed. Everything melted. I'm glad your car came out in decent condition ( respectfully ). That car looks like a good car and shouldn't take much to make it better than it was before the fire.

Side note: when it comes time to replace the bumpers source the yellow urethane original material bumpers. They aren't hard to find in good shape. You want ones that haven't been repainted a bunch of times. The black aftermarket ones can have fitment issues and can also get brittle over time. They don't flex as easy as the original bumpers. Tend to crack with minor impacts ( don't ask how I know ).

Yesterday I called a shop in Aurora, CO named Colorado Mustang Specialists inquiring about doing repairs on my car. They don't do restorations anymore, they only sell used Mustang parts. I told them where I live and they said they sell lots of parts to a body shop in Loveland, CO called Affordable Auto Body.

I called that shop and they said they do work on quite a few Mustangs and seems to know what they were doing. Once I hear from Hagerty I'll trailer the car down and see what they think repairs would cost. They understand I'm particular about this car and sounded receptive.

Initial estimate from the restoration company is $109k. The house is still standing but the attic, garage, and utility room are pretty messed up. The house burned for about 20 minutes before it was put out. The whole top of the house (shingles, trusses, ceiling etc) need replaced. Water damage throughout from them spraying water in both ends of the attic.

The picture is looking from the kitchen above the utility room.

Sorry to hear about this man. Glad everyone and the pets are ok. Hagerty does have a buy back deal they will offer you. They know how we love our cars and want to keep them if possible. Watching to see how it goes.

That really sucks - but, if no one was injured then it certainly could have been worse. Good luck on getting it all fixed, hopefully when it's all done everything will be better than it started.

In a holding pattern for now. No word from Hagerty as far as the appraisal that was done on Friday.

Also no word from insurance. We had a resto company do an estimate on the house and it was up to $109k in damage and they weren't done.
