I feel like a horses pa-tute... I argued and argued that the oem balancer would hold... I was sadly mistaken... I cracked my balancer right on the keyway... I have pics but for some reason im having problems with posting them...

Anyways I want to know which balancer i should get... I found some steal fluid dampers on ebay for a good price. I also found a romac on ebay for a good price also. This also has to hold up to my blower...

I would rether have a fluid type balancer because of how its suppose to save bearings, but i know that a romac is suppose to be really good too. If i knew that the fluid one would hold together like a romac then deffently get the fluid type.

Which one?

$219 romac good up to 8000+ rpms

or

$135 1025 steal fluid damper good up too 18000 rpms

after my last dyno run i got into the car and started it up and it was vibrating like crazy... I thought maybe they had burnt a plug or something.

The tuner said it was just fine during the runs... So i lucked out in a way... Maybe it did it during shut down? I guess 480 rwtq will do that to an oem nodular iron damper?

Green 94 5.0: that romac on ebay, is that just like the one everybody else uses?

I called Mustang Depot and they said that its not wise to use a fluid damper on a blower... So that answers that...

I run this one.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33616&item=2450232202

I purchased it as a pioneer sfi which is the powerbond race unit just in a pioneer box and it was a bit cheaper

I run the same balancer. It is a Pioneer/Powerbond and it is in SFI compliance and only cost about $145 shipped from StrokerMotors.com.

I have a fluidampnr like the one in the pic.. It requires pulley spacing so dont bother with it.. I havent even put it on, cause i know it would be a bitch to make it work with the s trim.

Im gonna go with the romac you have pictured there, seems like a great deal.

It is very high quality. I dont see this thing coming apart at all. and it is a sfi "race" unit. no worries. and its cheaper than a romac

I agree. I have the same one for when I was still planning on doing the 308 build and it seems like a really solid piece.

I still can not see how this could have happened. I think it was defective to begin with. Your engine may have the HP but RPM is RPM. If it was spining at 5500-6000 then it still should not have flown apart. The vibrations coming off the crank may have been so intense that it could have caused this. To me that sounds like the crank is out of balance. Just my thoughts. That hub looks like someone crammed a screwdriver through it to tighten up the crank bolt and it gave.

you have to remember that you have a blower putting resistance on it.. the more boost the more it resists. Thats my only guess... Otherwise im with you, i thought a oem balancer would hold up better...

splitting the balancer at the keyway is not uncommon when hp gets up there. i have seen quite a few people split them.i dont know anything about the powerbond so i really cant comment on it. i bought the romac for the piece of mind that i will never have to replace my balancer again.

Considering some of the balancer "attrition" thats be posted over the years, I'd say you lucked out only losing a balancer...
You got big cahunas running that on your motor...or you had em....
