ok, i went and saw a stang today. here are the specs

model: 2000 mustang GT convertible, automatic

price: $15000
year: 2000
mileage: 19650

options: leather interior, traction control, power everything, mach audio system. leather glove for the vert top, and floor mats.

condition. interior is perfect. some normal wear on front seats. one small but noticeable small ding on driver side near door jam. front fascia has a small dent at the bottom near the fog lights (not noticeable).

the car runs very well. everything works.

it's on consignment at a car broker. the guy wont budge from the price, which is 200 dollars below edmunds' price for a private party. dealer price is over $17K.

it sounds like a great deal to me. but what do you guys think?

they're charging a $45 doc fee, $257 "estimated" license fee and $58 dollar smog fee. but he said that the car had been smogged already. does that make sence? is there a smog fee that has to be paid anyway?

the out the door price is $16,596 including tax and everything.

stang

To me the price seems high for that many miles. But maybe not...I would suspect if you wanted to take the time to really look around you might find one with lower miles for the same price. If you don't want to wait, go for it.

19,000 miles on what is essentially a 4 year old car is nothing. Annual average miles for a car in the United States is 15,000 per year. Price is right for the year and condition. Having said that, before purchasing any used car (and this goes for one on a dealership lot) you should have a mechanic check it over to make sure that it is mechanically sound and has not been in an accident. Do not trust CARFAX for this info. My friend has a 2002 BMW M3 that had over 22K in repairs from an accident last year and it is STILL not showing up on CARFAX.
Just my 2 cents as I have been burned before...

cool, thanks for the replies. i'm gonna see if AAA offers a service where a mechanic will check out the car before my purchase.

i think the price is right for the mileage. but you're right. better to have a mechanic check it out.

Sounds like a nice car -- nice low miles, my guess is that it was taken care of. If your ok with the price - go for it. I have a 2000GT vert and love it.

Kelly Blue book is $17,315 retail and $11,765 wholesale on the car you described. Try to find out what this broker paid for the car and offer him a small profit over his cost. Otherwise, if you really like the car $15,000 isn't a bad price for a 2000 with low miles and everything checks out o.k. Private party value is about $13,900 so 15k might be a little high, depending on what he paid for the car he could still be making a pretty good profit. Good luck...

Well i guess from the way you all talk, I paid too much for my car. I bought it 1 year ago and paid 15,000 for it from a old man in North Carolina. The car was a fully loaded Mustang GT convertible with leather, mach460 and automatic transmission. Car only had 7800 miles on it when i bought it and it now has 11,0000. The car was garage kept all its life before i bought it and is garage kept now. I figured it was a good deal compared to 2002 and 20003 mustang gt convertibles with higher mileage going for 18k-22k at the time. I guess i was wrong, huh?

Not at all, if your happy with your ride and what you paid that's great. My only point was not to give too much profit to a dealer. I have family in the car business and I have always worked a dealer on their number for any car I've purchased. A good deal is if you walk away happy with what you got and what you paid for it...

Baddest,

I did a quick look for the heck of it through AutoTrader.com. Seems like a fair price they're asking. The closest match I saw was one for $14,995 with 19K on it; all the others were at least $1K more.

As someone else mentioned, get a CarFax on it - the selling broker should be able to do that for you. Also, try to get someone to pull the OASIS on it, and see what it's past history was with Ford.

Good luck!

CarFax is no guarantee

Take the car to a Ford dealer and let them check it out.
I tried to buy a 2003 GT vert from a 5 star dealer in Mass. last June.
Went there with check in hand. The primo, Carfax clean, 1,200 mile trade-in
had been hit in the left front. Driver's door lower hinge replaced, lft fender
replaced and the bumper cover mounting frame was cracked in 2 places.
Carfax, to this day, still says this car is clean.
Take your time and check it out. There are plenty of cars out there.
Good luck. You'll love the vert.

PS: I found a 01 GT vert w/ 10k miles and the owner was a 56 y/o car nut. Paid 19.7k last June. You car is in the market range. As long as you're happy, it'll be a good deal.
