Need help on 2003 GT shifter

just wanted to know what type of shifter peeps would recommend on my 03 GT, stock trany

you will fairly quickly get bombarded with MGW recomendations. that seems to be the new craze is the MGW. Steeda is a lone time favorite of the community (which i also have and love). pro 5.0 is the other popular favorite. any of the three will be a wise choice. MGW was not out when i got my steeda, and i decided to go with the steeda over 5.0 just of the built quality i trust of steeda.

based on the forums i think steeda, mgw, 5.0 is the order of quantity used here.

I like the Steeda Tri-ax myself, but I'm sure you'll get a lot of opinions on this. The statement that rings true for a shifter mod is that aftermarket > stock.

I put a MGW in my 2002 GT (stock) a few months ago. I like it a lot.
The MGW is available with two different handles that give slightly different shift lengths. The Cruiser handle (red) has about 4 inch shorter throw than stock, the Racer handle (blue) shortens it by even more, bur requires greater effort.
I have the Cruiser and find it to be both "quick" and "comfortable".

Other points:
I've heard that the Steeda and 5.0 are noisier than the MGW.
The Steeda's spring-assist into 3rd wins a lot of raves.
The 5.0 is, I believe, cheaper than the other two, but very good quality.

You won't go wrong with any of the 3....

I know this might be a stupid question but I found two different steeda Tri-Ax T5/T45 or Tri-AX TR3650. what one would I get with my trany (I don't know what trany I have )

If you have a 2003 GT you have the 3650 transmission.

I was gonna say "IF it grinds from 1st to 2nd on cold days you have the T3650"

However langod's answer is correct also.

thx for the help I am going to order them right now. get my 4.10s put in tomorow heheh. is the shifter a easy install or would you recomend geting it done by the shop?

It's pretty straight forward. Just follow the directions, take your time and be sure it's in neutral when you remove the stick. I'd guestimate 30-45 min?? since it's your first time.

One thing I loved about the Steeda in my old GT was I NEVER missed 3rd. Missed every other shift at some point, but never going up to 3rd.

I know some people get annoyed with the MGW crowd but let me pass along what I felt was a good compliment. I was at a muffler shop recently and the owner pulled my car into the bay (which required him to get out on the street and up the road about 50 yards). He then left the shop. 30 minutes later he called back to have the installer ask me what shifter it was because he wanted to buy one for his significant other's 2004 GT. He, an experienced car guy, was sold in the 3 minutes he was in the car.

MGW is very good.

BTW.. The shifter install is very simple.. Dont' waste your money paying someone.

I love my Steeda Tri-Ax, but I have never tried another one of the other shifters, so i can't talk bad about them or say that the Tri-Ax is better. I do love the way it has the spring-loaded shift from 2nd to 3rd. But i'm sure you would be happy no matter if you got the Steeda, MGW, or Pro 5.0.. but that's just my 2 cents

I have a Steeda Tri-Ax shifter on my 03 GT and I love it just have to get use to 3rd, I've had a problem with that.

Yeah, but if it shifts like a baseball bat in a rain barrel, that's the T-45. I've got both and I'll take the 3650 over the T-45 anyday.

OK, on with another shifter debate...

Another one for MGW. Really short shifts. Great mod after getting 4.10's. I would also get some under drive pulley's.

Nope! I've got the billet plus Hurst in my '03, along with the retro chrome stick, rubber boot and aluminum T handle. For me, the feel is perfect, but since it's adjusted fairly tight, someone else might think it takes too much effort. Virtually impossible to miss 3rd gear powershifting, though!
