I could be wrong, but I believe that the starters from the late 80s early 90s 302's fit in, since a 302 is a 302 more or less.
I guess the worse that could happen is you have to exchange it. Have him bring out the stock 67 starter, and the later starter, and check to see if the dimensions of the bolts are the same before you leave the store.

I went to work today and compared the late and early model starters... Everything looks like it shouldn bolt up but the bendix location was worrying me.
On the early model the bendix and cone are centered in the starter body. But on the late model one the bendix and cone are dropped down in relation to the solonoid part. Apparently it works, but it seemed really fishy to me how far off the late model cone was to the early model.
I had an idea for the wiring itself too. Theoretically, the whole idea of the solonoid is to send 12V straight to the starter. Most of us have this seperate. The instructions on the page say you should run the cable to the starter directly to the battery, and then a wire off the switched side of the solonoid to the energize terminal on the starter....
Well..... I had a thought. Since already one solonoid is hooked up, would it be possible to run the power from the original solonoid like normal, and then run a very small wire from a ring terminal around the power terminal to a 1/4" female-blade connector to the energize terminal. That way when power is sent normally, it will go to the starter (as if being hooked up in the 'recommended' way) and then the power goes through the little connector to the terminal to close the circuit? Would this work? If it does, in this way you add a simple 1.5" peice of wire and you are done with the install.
