I need to get this working before I head to work ...how much would it cost for a new realy or something to fix this problem? any help is greatly appreciated!

My 97 Z28 had this problem and it was the actual door switch. I had to replace the switches and the windows rolled up and down faster afterwards also... a possibility, but I don't know exactly what the cause of your problem is... sorry

well both motors are fine I am guessing I watched the new one roll up and down right before it was taken out...I have tapped them and they both do the same thing..I jsut dont understand why it wont work at all from the drivers side but will roll down only from pass side..my driver window works perfect...grrrrr

It's probably your switch - cheap at "good guy" dealers ($ 19) , expensive "yacht owner" dealerships ($ 35). HTH

The guy with the parts car is going to get one for me tmrw so I can test it out and see..is it most likely the pass side switch? the reason I need to know is bc I have to make sure he gets the right one..Thanks guys

my buddies dad tested the switch and it gets power when rolling down but no voltage when pressing up...would this be a bad switch or do I have an even bigger problem?!

Switch or wiring... hard to say which switch it is(driver or passenger) because of how they are wired in series... My buddies 92 LX that I rewired for him proved to be the exact same as my Z28 problem... He thought the actuators were bad, but the previous owner hacked the wiring up really badly so after I was finished putting it all back together both windows work flawlessly...

Slam the door hard a couple times.

Wait a while...

When it cools down it will work.

The rubber is impeding the windows movement and making the motor or relay over heat. Fix the rubber to fix the problem...

even with the motor not installed and just hooked up out side of the door it will not operate when pressing the up button ...neither motor but I know the one is practically brand new...

hehe I just had the same problem with my drivers side window. It finally started working after I got everything apart. Someone was also talking about a relay sticking when hot. I guess my cooled off but yours might be stuck. Guy at autozone told me I should try to run a 12v source directly to the motor or the switch to try to locate the problem. I never tried it though.

The power window system in your vehicle more than likely does not use relays. Rather, both switches rest at ground. Pressing the UP button sends 12 volts to one of the motor wires, the other rests at ground. Pressing the DOWN button sends 12 volts to the other motor wire, while the other rests at ground. The drivers and passenger switches are connected in series so that either can control the same motor.

Now that you've determined that one of the switches has no power when pressing UP it is more than likely defective switch. Based on your description, I'd have to say the passenger switch is defective.
