OK, so here's the story. Last year I bought Jordanvraptor's 2000 red GT from Damerow Ford in Beaverton. I got a pretty good deal, but that's beside the point. This year I bought a 2000 GT 'Vert from Vancouver Ford, I don't recommend going there, but anyways. Comparing the two cars, the red GT seemed to be more powerful. It would take off the line quicker, and seem to have more low-end power. What can I do to the 'vert to get it to go a little better? It is completely stock, would a K&N intake help it a little? The only real difference between the two was the red GT had "Installed B & M Transmission cooler 24,000 gvw model," "Installed K & N air filter," and "Maximum Motorsports Full length subframe connectors installed."

Any Help would be appreciated.

P.S. I would like to go as cheap as possible right now.
Thanks-Dan----KEEP THE PEACE

Have AFP install some 4.10's. That'll give it some pep.

Best seat of the pants improvement would be the gears. Intake, off road pipe, catback would help.

Is your vert an auto as well?

I've met the current owner of the red 2000 GT we used to own. He has lowered it and added 3.73 gears. Still runs around 14.4 @ 95 mph at PIR. A little improvement but not much. Cool guy, met him at PIR.

I don't think you guys are getting accurate reads at PIR. When I went back home to Iowa last year, I took it (the red GT) out on an almost brand new Nascar track I helped build and got a 14.2 in 1/4. Anyway, I want to do something to help my car. Thanks, Dan.

PS. It is an AUTOMATIC.

Well everyone says PIR is slower. When I raced the GT at Woodburn, I got 14.4 @ 95 so maybe only a tenth difference between the two local tracks. Different geography means different altitude, air, surface cohesion, etc....

IMHO....

for performance: the 4.10s

for driving enjoyment: an aftermarket shifter or shift kit depending on trans type

for both: a cat-back and an x pipe

You could probably do all of the above for less than 2grand. MUCH less if you can do the shifter and exhaust yourself.

Let's not forget about pulleys and a timing adjuster kit. Pulleys will pay themselves off through improved gas mileage, and timing adjustability will provide a nice power increase when running premium fuel. Total cost for these mods is around $200.
