i just want to do a stock replacement one for now......and i was wondering wut are the steps in doing it anyways...and howmuch are stock ones running price wise.......thanxs ppl
Just need to pop the belt off, remove the crank pulley, remove the large center bolt. You'll need a puller to remove the balancer. After the old one is off put a lil oil/grease around the new balancer where the seal will ride. Line up the key and push it on the crank. Reinstall the large bolt and press the balancer on, all the way. Reinstall the puleey and belt.
ull need an impact to remove the bolt...make sure to use a balancer removal tool(puller) seen too many people try without it and its a pita and takes forever also can damage it if your prying on it to pull it off.
if you put the car in 5th and use a breaker, and go to the gym once a decade, the crank bolt should come out.
i like to use never seize on the hub. use a removal tool and install tool (often the same tool - was for me from CSK). they loan them out.
were i to do it (ive researched it a ton), id go with a Romac if i had a serious machine. for me, id go with a Pioneer non SFI unit. right around 100 bucks. just personal preference. the PP street unit (80 bucks from LRS is supposed to be good also). i dont like the OEM units, myself.
ok well summit has a ford racing one for 75.00 is that one any good, and PP what company is that one and do u have a link to it i can see......and does auto zone or a place like that have the removal tool and install tool to loan out??........and i dont have a impact gun here sooo gotta get it off another way....
Nothing is wrong with them....in fact they're better overall. The thing is, they're quite a bit more expensive, because they have the SFI approval and they're good up to like 10,000 rpm. The stock style balancers are good up to around 6500 rpm (I'm sure they can go higher but it's not reccomended). I think once you're running a certain speed at the track you need an SFI balancer.....but I think its rediculously fast like 10's or under.
sidewayz, are you asking me what is wrong with SFI balancers?
if so, nothing at all. they are great. they are pretty pricey (for a good one), which is why i said i would run the Pioneer non SFI unit (i dont drive the car hard). Romacs go for close to 300 bucks.
1987, LRS has a pic of the PP unit. i used a loaner install and removal tool from CSK (Checker, Schucks, Kragen). as said, you should not need impact tools for removal. soak the bolt in PB Blaster the night before, if you have doubts.
