I'm in the process of rebuilding the engine in my 88 tc. I bought the car for 500 bucks with a bad motor. The car is in jam up shape to be an 88. But anyway i pulled the head and saw it had a hole in the piston. Well today i tore it down and that piston has gotten a litlle hot. I guess someone got the timing off or something But my question is does anyone have any pistons? I don't have the money (thanks to the price of gas) to replace all the pistons. This is a low milage engine so the rebuild should be pretty easy. But would it be okay to just replace 2 of the pistons(another is a little rough, caught some head gasket). Summit has them new for 54 bucks. Has anyone ever replaced single pistons, or better yet does anyone have any? Thanks

I would say you could replace just wo pistons but I am paranoid that the weights need to be very close or it could throw off the balance.

IMHO what I would do is buy the two pistons but pull all four rods and pistons and make sure the pistons and rods are all close to the same weight.

Otherwise I would think you would have to rebalance the rotating assembly.

The Speed Pro pistons from Summit are identical to the factory pistons. It shouldn't be an issue to replace just one. You'll still end up buying a complete set of rings though.

Thanks guys I'm still trying to decide what to do. Boss if you can cut me a pretty good deal I'd go with your pistons. But like i said new ones are only 54 bucks. And well with shipping and everything it would have to be a good deal. But you can send me pics to my email superstroke17@yahoo.com.
