Just read this over on SVTPerf. I personally will take a wait and see on this... but I sure as hell don't feel comfortable having the dealership tear my hand built motor apart and replace the crank...

I don't feel comforable letting dealer mechnics replace a tailight lense, let alone anything in the engine

funny they do something about the crank, but the POS pistons are left untouched. They should just build a whole new motor, with new heads and install them in all the 03/04's. I don't know what I will do. Like you said Meat, I don't want some $6 an hour moron tearing into my perfectly good motor and R&Ring the crank.......

I wonder if they will just drop the oilpan and change out the crank. I can see those *******s half-assing it like that...........

umm...."$6 an hour morons"...The dealers actually have the only trained techs around...unlike private shops that make the oil change guys to motor swaps or let hacks use jb weld and tie straps to fix everything.

i used to be a tech at a ford dealership, and even if there were 6 dollar an hour techs working there only svt certified techs were allowed to work on them. not sure how other dealerships work but i know the one i worked at wouldnt have sent one of the "$6 an hour morons" to get svt certified. i definitely understand where you guys are coming from, and im not trying pi$$ anyone off. there are good techs out there though,but it is tough sometimes to find one that you can trust and knows his s%$#

umm, the "SVT" tech at the "SVT" dealer I go to asked me where I got the eaton blower that was on my car when it was brand new........

well then technically he would be more like a $14 dollar an hour moran, which is even worse! i think thats around what they start at around here.(at least he knew it was an eaton)

I think they have it all messed up. There is a recall for the 03-04 Cobra coming up, its safety recall 06S43.
Here is the discription:

REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL

The rear surface of the accelerator pedal may come into contact with floor carpeting during heavy throttle application. For those vehicles where the floor carpeting does not fit flush with the sheet metal, the unique rear surface profile of the Mustang Cobra accelerator pedal may catch in the carpet cutout behind the accelerator pedal. This could interfere with the pedal's ability to return to an idle position. As a result, some customers may experience unexpected continued throttle application and/or increased stopping distances.

I don't see anything on a crank issue right now.

I knew about the forth coming carpet recall. This crank recall has yet to be "Publically" announced from the info being spread arounf the 'net currently. At least that's what's being reported. We'll just have to wait and see....

I just did some more reading and supposedly the guy on SVTPerf who initially boke this story works for a warranty service call center so take that for what it's worth.

French mustang site:
Information of Head Quarter Ford in Dearborn (Michigan) last week, President Yvon Nuberner of the department Ford Research and Developments was proud to announce to its personnel the setting in nearest production of an experimental engine 9 cylinders intended first of all for the European market. The official Presentation with the press could be done in France at the time of a forthcoming automobile event with T-it declared without other precise details! For faded technology, here what I could include/understand of some leakages of press (more or less voluntarily organized) on this project. This engine would be in fact a classic 8 cylinders on which the American engineers would have grafted a ninth cylinder in the center of V between cylinders 4 and 8. A special crankshaft with 3 rods on the last crank pin was especially to create as well as a new block. This 9th cylinder has an individual and independent cylinder head and would be used "to digest" gases imbrulés to reduce the emissions of pollution. This new concept would make it possible to eliminate the pot epileptic and to appreciably increase the angle of crossing of the valves. The testers of this new prototype engine are all unanimous to recognize that the principal virtue of control would agréement be offered to the user. I hope to urgently receive a confidential photograph of this engine to be able to give you more precise details on this scoop and in particular to see how the last shaft bearing to cam was arranged!
