The first and formost question is what do you want to do with the car and where will it spend most of the time? Will it be a daily driver or a only drive it to the race track and race it? There are two very different routes to go building the car.

Weekend racer means a 351+ engine with a carb, since it offers the most possibilities for your racing dollar. The basic 351 block can be bored and stroked to 427 cu in for a reasonable cost. The 351 swap is well documented in the "Useful Technical Thread Index" at the top of the 5.0 Tech forum.

Don't forget the chassis while you are considering bulding a race car. The unibody twists like a dishrag when subjected to the torque of a stock engine, so subframe rails and a roll cage will be a must for a big cubic inch engine. The rear suspension will need lots of work to get all the HP communicated to the ground. Plan on spending almost as much on it as the engine if you really want to go fast.

thanks for the advise where is a good place to get a 351 block and can i use some of my 302 parts (oil pan, alternator.....) on the 351. I had planed on beefing up the rear end and doing all necessary things before i put the engine in

Do you have emissions in your state? Whats your price range? If you only want 11's, and have no emissions a basic carbed h/c/i bottle car will get you there with supporting mods. For me as you can see below I went the boost route and Iam never looking back! BTW its your car but have you thought about getting a 4 eye nose and putting that back on there?
