How many hours labor is usually in a clutch replacement?

I got a quote of 6 hours and that sounded high to me.

yeap, My brother works for a ford dealer 6 hours is right. You can do it yourself it takes 2 guys and 12 hours if you have all the parts.

i got mine done at a very reputable shop in 4 hrs.

I have done 'em with the help of one person and the best I have done is 5 hours. At a shop I could beat that using a lift and a transmission jack which makes removing and installing the tranny significantly easier. But I have done them in 5 hours using jack stands to raise the car and a floor jack to hold the transmission (and a second one to hold up the rear of the motor.)

4 on the low side 5-6 is fair anything over 7 is high.. If you had longtubes then it would be higher.

6 is a fair quote. Even though they will most likely do it faster. Did mine in 4 1/2. On another note, If I charged 4 1/2 hrs to do a clutch, I would be severly underpaying myself.

our trans guy just did a clutch in a sn95 cobra, got paid 6 hours, took him about 2 total working hours.

I think that 6 is pretty high. It should not take a decent mechanic that long to do it. But then again they always factor in extra time in quotes in case they run into problems.

anyone here really know how flat rate works? it doesn't matter how long it actually takes. you still get paid a certain amount. 6 hours is right about what the guide says a shop should charge for it.

i usually quote 4.5 w/o longtubes 6 with them...that is at 40 an hour....6 is high to me but everyone is different

$40 an hour????? wow, must not be at a shop, were $98 an hour and were the cheapest dealer in town.

I had mine replaced by a guy in Fayetteville and he said it was 4hrs labor. Cost me about $850. It was a dedicated transmission shop and he had a few Stangs he had worked on that week.

I paid 250 for a 5.0L T-5 with shorties. I paid 450 for my 96 Cobra with longtubes. But that was when I was younger. Now I can do it myself. I will never go with L/T's again. Next clutch job I do, the stock shorties are going back on.
