New Fuel Sending Unit Needed?

I ordered a new fuel pump and assembly from a friend at a Ford Dealer. He said that it did not come with the Sending Unit. I am not that familiar with that, is this something that should come on the assembly? Is this something that I should replace? If I should replace it, any tips or info I should know?

The fuel quantity sending unit is mounted on a separate plate and mounts in a different access cover on 86-93 Mustangs

Thanks for the info--so it is not on fuel pump assembly. Is the sending unit something that should be replaced during this process?

Not unless you are having fuel quantity gauge problems.

ahh...now I get it. The sending unit doesn't actually send fuel anywhere, just supplies info to the guage.
