New retro Challanger to rival the Mustang?

I would love if there were to build this car but when you compare the design of the Dodge Charger concept car to the actual version, the styling left a lot to be desired. But still - the idea of that 425 hp hemi in a cool design has me salivating.

funny how the kids on that forum there think that dodge is reaching too far back for the challenger styling, or they think it is ugly. or the one that wants to know when the srt-8 will happen.

Chrysler is on a roll with their powertrains and the styling. After having said that let me say that the Charger is simply a fugly peice of chit, but i respect their willingness to at least take chances and push the envelope. Something Ford has trouble doing with designs like the Fusion and the 500.

DC's biggest problem however has always been, and it seems to continue to be, quality. They have a dismal service record.

But s has been said it is hard to argue with a 425hp street car!

This happened to my son last week. He lost all power steering fluid on Friday, so told him to have it towed to the Ford dealer near home, so he could have car ready by Saturday. Saturday morning the Ford service manager said the mechanic who started the work on Friday afternoon called in sick on Saturday morning so we had to wait till Monday to get the car repaired. A visit with the service manager and a few words (no cussing though) and an hour and a half later, car is repaired...American car dealers really need to up their repair standards if they want to compete.

Overall I agree that US manufacturers are still behind the japs, but the Mustang has been one of the top ten cars according to the quality rankings for MANY years.

I want to like the Charger but I don't and I couldn't really put a finger on why. That was until I saw the two door customs at the SEMA show. Removing the B-pillar fixes all that is wrong with that car.

My Son is interested in the new Charger R/T. The attraction being the unique styling and the Hemi of course. I'm looking foward to the new Challenger and I think these vehicles will increase the sales of Mustangs.

I am still a little reluctant about Chrysler quality. I bought a new '85 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z that had a LOT of problems and swore I would never buy Chrysler again. I think they have come a long way since then and my son (just joined the service) may have better luck with a new Charger.

Points for idea.....

None for execution.

The grille area/lights are too short in relation to the huge bumper area below it. Same for the rear. It looks like custom Chrysler 300, ie a sedan chassis with only new sheetmetal(which it is, but the point is to not be so obvious).

I always liked Chargers and 'Cudas anyway. Now Plymouth is gone and the Charger sucks.

Grille needs more recess; Buick Regal rear!?!?

yes, and the grille needs to be set in farther, it just kind of looks like a Datsun with that short recess for the grille.

I like the general shape, but that Buick Regal-style taillight has GOT to go! In my 'hood, that's the kind of car they trick out with Dubs and spinners and stereos that rattle whole car, not to mention the whole block. It really looks like a late '80s, early '90s style Buick Regal.

Deepen the recess in the front for the grille, make the grille larger, rework the taillights and you'd have a winner.

I have to say, I still double-take every time I see a new Mustang. It's not perfect, but they did a real good job this time around. I can't wait 'till I rent a car at Hertz, I'm gonna try one!
