You'd probably lose some bottom end torque without the mufflers and the amount of power you'd get wouldn't be enough to put up with that blasting exhaust note. Not right having to shout to the passenger when muffled exhausts make the same power.

If you don't care about a few ft. #'s of tourqe of the low end, it sure sounds good! A guy just came buy trying to sell me a coupe with BBK shortys and o/r H pipe.. MAN, that is how I want my car to sound.... Actually, I don't think it is loud enough like that

If you believe the car mags....one of them did a test with a whole bunch of mufflers and they did a baseline with no mufflers at all, and every muffler in the bunch out performed open exhaust by a long shot. The engine does need some backpressure...

A friend of mine had a 5.0 explorer which he wanted to put dual pipes on. There was no room for mufflers, so he just ran cats and straight pipes out the back. It was loud, but I didn't think it sounded too good myself. Definately not mellow, really crackly.

BBK shorty's and an o/r h pipe would sound good with a set of mufflers at the end as well

U2slo: If you're curious, go ahead and unhook your mufflers and drive like that. It gets old quick; I did it for about 6 months and it was really annoying. I also drove for about 3 months with mufflers hooked up, but no tailpipes after them - that was loud too. I got tired of setting off car alarms and the noise, so I put tails back on.

I was driving my GT the other day for the first time in a long time. With full exhaust turning about 2400 rpm, it's loud enough to get annoying to me.

The only way to know is to try it. It probably won't damage your car, but you probably will lose a little power.

:Word:

I must be getting old, but I just don't want my cars as loud as I used to. I still like loud exhaust on a V8, but not on my daily driver. I also don't like to attract the attention from the cops.

I ran mine without mufflers for about a month after my tranny was installed. Not only was it obnoxiously loud, the exhaust note sounded like a WWII airplane. It was weird. And you will lose power, it felt pretty damn slow without the mufflers on.

at least put glasspacks on, i got the 12" summit glasspcks and it makes the car sound great (turbo back though) I ran mine with the downpipe and sidepipes etc but with no mufflers and it just sounds horrible... to much of a metalicy tinny sound... Once you do it you'll know what i mean, give it a try otherwise you'll be liek me and always want to do it.... i cut the mufflers off, the next day i was welden em back on.... plus a glass pack is cheep, i think mine we're like $15.00each from summit.... just put one on each side and it'll at lest get rid of a lot of the tinny noises, although i'm not sure being an n/a car.... May even still be to loud lol

stock motor chit sounds like grandmas rotted off exhaust .. put a nice cam in it and sounds like a nice drag car. I like mine loud im runnin o/r bbk xpipe, BBK lt's,flows. Sounds good if u like it lound others would argue otherwise. Mustangs arent supposed to be quiet luxury cars. just my opinion

The car will be slower with no mufflers. I had a friend with an '89 GT who ran stock headers and stock Hpipe but with no mufflers. He was young and dumb and thought it sounded cool. Looking back, it was probablyt obnoixious as hell and embarrassing.

Anyway he could never run quicker than a 15.1 at the track with a 5-spd GT. He plopped a cat-back on and was instantly running 14.7-14.8's
