The oil pressure would be at about 50 psi when it was warming up , then drop down to like 40. It is a very reputable speed shop. I am at a loss for things to do , i think it is time for the for sale sign. I dont have the money to rebuild.
There are lots of guys out there with a motor they built just waiting for the stang to drop it into. OR trade it in and let the dealer beware...they wholesale them off without even looking at a car so your conscience will be clear.
I don't know if he's still around but I got a great 300HP longblock 306 with a year guarantee from Indymustang.com 4 years ago for $1600. No exchange. He was in Indianapolis, IN. I sold the old long block motor for $250 to pay shipping. A great guy to deal with. (OOPS. I looked it up he filed for bankruptcy in Jan of this year. Too bad. Once he pays off the $10 grand he owes he can do internet business again. Was known as Indy Mustang Unlimited.) There's plenty of other builders out there.
Maybe you could go that route? It's cheaper than buying another car at least. Mustang motors are pretty easy to find...just ask around.
Turns out that the shop really messed up > i told them from the beginning that it was a valve problem and thats why it was losing power , but they insisted on it being a spun rod bearing. Turns out another mechanic looked at it and they called me back today and it WAS a valve train problem. I got all worked up for a cheap quick fix! Hopefully now she will be running like it should.
I just got home from the shop that it is at and he said he will have it sorted out by tuesday at the latest , they are really busy with dyno tunes this weekend. The guy felt bad and hooked me up with a world class t-5 that someone just pulled out so they could put a 6 speed in. I'm getting the trans for like 200 bucks , and he said the engine most likely has a bent push rod that is why it was so slow and was ticking. What do you guys think? The car almost seemed like it was running off of 7 cylinders , thats how slow it was.
Push rods ususally don't get bent unless the valve hits the piston? The other exeption would be if a lifter overpumps from high revs for prolonged time with no load.
A compression test is in order to make sure the valve is seating properly.
Well yes to what you said about 7 cylinders. If a valve isn't opening you aren't getting power out of that one for sure.
Hope you do dodge the bullet and motor on the cheap. Sounds like a great deal on the tranny.
A compression test showed great compression on all cylinders. The number one cylinder was a little bit less than everything else. I should be getting her back tuesday , just in time to put in the new tranny and rear.
