I'm looking for a little change for my '65. I've run big tube Flowmasters for 15 years, and I'm looking for a new exhaust that sounds "good" but doesn't cause the residents of the local cemetery to call and make a noise complaint.

I'm running headers, an X-crossover, and I dump it under the car. Any suggestions?

well I had Flowmasters and switched to Magnaflow, and it definitely quieted the car down some.

Dynamax super turbos will be quiet during cruise/idle, but moderately loud when you step on it..They have a nice, deep sound.. Had them on mine for a while and it sounded really good, only got rid of them because I wanted something louder

COOL! I loved the Flowmasters some time ago, but I've started noticing that, crap, she's friggin' loud. LOL!

My simple and cheap shelby side exits are not really loud. I really dont like the drone of a flow master, but these glass packs sem to sound about perfect to me. But, its all relative I guess. Can you download a smartphone app and measure the interior/exterior DB of your car, that may help put it into perspective after you change.

Hey man, that's a great idea (app thing). Actually, I have a docimeter at work, so I can get you actual numbers.

I haven't decided on what to get, yet. One of my limiting factors is that I'm running a 409 stroker that's got big pipes. It's sort of an "old school" motor (solid lifters, blah blah blah), and she's sort of loud and proud. That's why I wanted the pro's here on S/N to give me their 2 cents.

Well, you could always add a second set of mufflers or resonators to the existing system, but I would ashcan the Flowmaster for sure. I find that dealing with a standing wave can do a bunch to quiet a system down, things like changing a pipe diameter for a short bit to knock the wave about a bit does wonders also.

The X-Crossover helps out a lot (opinion, but I've heard it with and without). There are always crappy issues when dealing with a '65 that's modified, though. Don't get me wrong. I've had the rod 27 years, and love her dearly. But there's never any room for anything, and almost EVERYTHING is a compromise.

If you like the flowmasters then just get 50 series. I had a set on a 347 solid lifter, bla, bla motor and loved the sound. Quiet to cruise without drone but nice when you get after it.
