my girlfriends '97 3.8/t5 173k mustang's odometer just quit working... is there a problem with the cable or is there a sensor or something electronic that goes haywire.

my '86 3.8/c5 131k pony's odometer still works fine, as does the tripometer.

please help me... i need to fix this as the engine is under warranty still.

Looks like your engine will now be under warranty forever!

I assume your speedometer is still working? If it is, there's something broken inside the cluster. Replacing the whole thing is the only remedy- those odometers are made to be impossible to work on- for obvious reasons!

It's not neccessarily the cluster, I had the same thing happen on my first car (a 97 eclipse GSX), twice actually, i somehow kept causing the sending unit to come loose, at the other end (not at the cluster), I had no idea where it was, but the mechanics just let the engine and everything cool down, reach in, and plug it back in, when it popped back out the 2nd time, i said f it and drove for 2 years with no odometer.

The same thing happened within the last week to my 95 V6 Vert w/121K miles -- speedometer and tach still work, but trip meter stopped at 48.7 and then I noticed my odometer stopped as well.

I took it to the local shop and they made it sound like even if it is something with the cluster, that it can be repaired...I'm trying to be optomistic.

I'll let you know what the final verdict is.

I got it repaired, out the door, for $299. That included a $36 inspection fee and $10 RUSH processing fee.

Well, I guess that's not too bad! Usually electronic issues tend to be expensive. I'm glad it wasn't more!
