I'm about to change the oil in my new '07 this weekend with some Mobil 1. Probably just going to buy the oil and have the Ford dealer do the change since they're right down the road. I didn't see in the manual how many quarts I need, but I vaguely remember hearing it's 6qts. Is that correct?

Also, anyone have any recommendations on oil filters?

It is 6 quarts. I would reccomend Fram. I used Royal Purple and a Fram filter on mine. Motorcraft's high performance version is also good as is K&N.

OK thanks.

This is my first brand new car and I definitely want to give it better than the JiffyLube treatment

No fram filters. They are made of cardboard and have been known to cause problems. The inside of the filter can cave in under pressure, blocking the flow of oil to your motor.

Stick with a Motorcraft filter, Mobil One, etc.

I've heard all the bad stuff about Fram filters (mostly on StangNet) but have used them for 30 years without problems. I do buy Motorcraft when I have a choice. You can usually get them at about the same price as a Fram at Wally World...
I learned the hard way to always have a garage do the first oil change on a new vehicle. I tried to wrench the factory installed oil filter off a Nissan Pickup years ago. They must've had King Kong put the damn thing on after they coated the threads with locktite. It evenually came off but it wasn't easy.

I had no problem getting my oil filter off. Just need the right size OF wrench. I wanted to get a Ford Racing oil filter but could find one, then wanted a K&N but GI Joes was out, so I went with the infamous Fram TH2!!

I'm gonna burn in hell for this I know!!

I used the K&N filter on my 06, but before I always used Fram filters on my F-150 and 1990 Mustang, never with a problem. I know they have a bad reputation with many people, but with the Fram filters and Mobil 1 oil, my old Stang engine still looked brand new after 55K miles when I pulled the valve covers off.

its about 6.5 qts to get it to the top of the full line. 6 will put you about right in the middle of the crosshatch area.

i use the motorcraft oil filter. FL820S i think.

I wanted to use RP but all GI Joes had was 5w30 and I wasn't sure what would happen running with that oil weight. Hopefully they will have 5w20 next time.

I swear by Royal Purple. Of course, when(if ever) I break down in the middle of nowhere and i am towed to a small town, I will use Mobil 1, or whatever brand of 5w20 they have around.

Gotta vote for Motorcraft synthetic oil and Motorcraft filters. I think if you check tests of filters, Motorcraft rates right up there (number 1 or 2). I've used nothing else in the old '96 and now in the '05.

Same here but I use a Bosch Premium filter. Half the price and made by the same company.

Mobil 1 Super Syn and Puro1 Filter @ 500 miles. Filter easy to get to but a PITA to get off. Wish FoMoCo would send them from the line with syn in it like Vette's, Vipers, BMW's, and Porsche's.

06GT w/man 18's. Now 1200 on the odo.

Vette's, Vipers, BMW's, and Porsche's? All 45G's and up. Mustang GT- 25 grand. Let's face it, getting a car like this at this price? We're lucky they ship 'em out with oil at all.

+1

New Mustangs come from the factory with a Synthetic blend oil.

By the way, Motorcraft and Purolator Pure One are essentially the same filter.
