Oil Change Problem?!

I have drained all the oil from my car and removed the oil filter. 3 quarts came out roughly. I cleaned the dipstick and put it back in and it reads full! I did this several times with the same results. The car is on level ground. What the hell could this be from? And, should I put 5 quarts back in if it reads overful? The oil pan is not dentred in either.

there is another drain plug near the rear of the pan.

ITS UNDERNEATH THE X BRACE there is a hole in it so you can get a socket to the plug.

Just what I was thinking. You forgot that there are two oil pan drain plugs.

Or, your dipstick tube is bent and you are getting residual oil on the tip but I seriously doubt it. If anything it would clean off the tip and make it harder to see the level of oil.

When I first got this car I changed the oil put oil in and it was over full, couldnt figure out why, drained it all again filled it up and same thing over full, turns out our cars have 2 drain plugs, dont know why though. But yea get both plugs off and you should be fine.

Thank you. I am sure that seems like a silly question to most of you. I have changed oil in many cars and I have never seen one with 2 oil plugs. Job Done

Fortunately, I had a friend in our local Mustang club show me where everything was by helping me go through and change all of the fluids, filters, plugs, wires, and distributer when I first got mine. I never would have noticed a second plug without his help.

I found the one on lowest point first, looked up and and was like WTF theres another.

Anytime anyone sees a humped pan (to clear a crossmember, etc) always check for a second drain plug.

You see that we all admit we didnt realize the second plug untill some head scratching then hissin has to come in here and knock us down a level ... lol

I saw it had two plugs the first time I checked.

I was still like "WTF?" though. lol

GTA V6, that was not my intention at all. I just thought the generality might stick with folks (that hump in the sump and two plugs part applies to almost all cars, not just stangs).

Sometimes the internet kinda hurts things because we forget to read our manuals (it's in black print in chapter one of most manauls). When I got my first stang, it was before internet so all I had was a repair manual. Boy did that suck!

To make you feel better, I have had to hunt for drain plugs on Euro cars and motorcycles. I could go on about old oil filters before the spin-on types and what a pain those were, but no one would know what I'm talkin about.

i did the exact opposite, I saw the hole in the x-brace and completely missed the front sump the first time.....

Dont worry hissin I was just joking around. I do that a lot. I have a haynes manual for the car that I used to use all the time when I had my 6 but since I got my GT i have only had to use it to look up the firing order.
