You have to remove all accessories, timing cover, timing chains, lift the engine a bit and drop the oil pan. But other then that it is pretty easy.

What happened to the pump? How do you know it needs replacing? What are the symptoms?

Are you seeing these readings on a calibrated oil pressure gauge?

Is the engine making any noise? Knocking or tapping, for example?

The oil pump is a very simple and reliable device and is unlikely to fail unless you've hurt the rotor components with, say, underdrive pulleys... Low oil pressure readings can come from a number of sources, such as excessive oil clearances in the engines main or rod bearings (for example.) Even a bad oil pressure sender unit can cause goofy readings on the dash gauge (which is why I asked earlier if you were using a separate external gauge...)

Please try to use correct grammar and sentence structure. It makes you look ignorant and stupid and makes me want to walk away from this thread without saying a word.

It is very unlikely that the oil pump is the problem. Oil pumps are constant volume pumps and generally work properly or don't work at all

What kind of gauge are you using and where is it tapped into? It is very possible you are just getting bad measurements.

If you determine that your oil pressure is ACTUALLY low, and not the result of a poor gauge setup, then your problem is most likely loose bearings or something related to oil escaping places it isn't suppose to. Again, it is VERY VERY rare for a pump to fail and provide low pressure. The low pressure is due to oil escaping at a high rate, like in loose bearings.

Are pulleys bad to put on these cars over time ?

Some are because they fail to properly damp crankshaft torsional vibrations. In extreme cases, this can lead to breakage of the oil pump gears as the pump straddles the crank snout. If you go UDP, go Steeda as they actually made an effort to properly engineer not only the underdrive part but also the damper part of their design.

In the context of this thread though, a broken oil pump wouldn't produce any oil pressure. As bhuff said, oil pumps generally work or they don't.

It's possible that the pressure relief valve in the oil pump is acting oddly because of debris or burrs or something causing the plunger to stick partly open. The original poster needs to clearly state how he's measuring the pressure, if there are any engine noises attendant to these low oil pressure readings etc. It would suck to go to the trouble of opening and stripping the front of the engine, replacing the oil pump and re-assembling only to find the pressure doing the same thing because the problem is elsewhere (e.g. a bearing...)

Check the oil pressure with a different gauge.

You still don't know how to use complete sentences?

Try explaining where the gauge is tapped, how it was tapped, what kind of gauge, ect and maybe you can get some answers. The location makes a BIG difference.

The 4.6 is actually a very good engine and goes 3-400k miles in police and taxi service.
