i made a stupid mistake when installing my lower intake. i pulled out the distributor and dropped the drive shaft for the oil pump down in the pan. does anyone know any tricks to get it back up in place without pulling the engine. i would pull the engine if weren't for the fact that it is a fresh rebuild and just went in. so any help would be greatly appreciated.http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/images/smilies/stupid.gif

A magnet will work if you can get ahold of it... Its a fresh build did you set the clearance and retaining washer to prevent it from faliing out?

Its still some work, but you may be able to pull just the front timing cover if the magnet doesn't work.

Bingo... looks like you forgot that tiny little umbrella washer that many think is not important... until the shaft falls into the pan. Lesson learned... the hard way.

If you have a lift, jacking up the engine 5" to drop the pan 5" gives you room enough to install the driveshaft the right way, from the bottom up!
If you have the umbrella washer of course.
Or napa sells new ones w/ washer for $5.

I was wondering myself: how do you set the position of the washer?
