Oil Pump

Has anyone replaced there oil pump? If so did they get a high flow pump? Would this cause any leaks from the old gaskets or any other problems i would have to worry about? What PSI do they run at. Thanks alot guys.

If your engine is fairly internally stock and dosn't see high RPM's for an extensive amount of time, then dont bother with a High Volume Pump.... Stick With a Standard Volume, they flow enough and still provide good oil pressure. In most cases a HV oil pump is not needed... they rob Horsepower, raise the oil tempurature, and can at times suck the oil pan dry if a stock pan is used. Unless your car is a full out drag car, road race car, etc. etc. then forget about a HV Pump, it is not needed.

Well every now and then i do run it hard. I like to open it up alittle and feel whats under the hood for a little fun, but usually not all the way to red line. Once every couple of months i might take it to 5500 but thats it. So you are saying stick with the production pump for now?

Pretty Much....... Like I said dont bother with a HV.... it will do more harm then good.

Sure will. You need to have provisions for something that exceeds stock limits. A 7 quart oil pan is probably what you need to go after if you ever do go down that road however.

I replaced my oil pump with a HV unit. The oil pump itself will not cause the oil leaks at the gasket. It shouldn't cause any oil leaking problems on its own and just replace oil pan gasket with a new one. No sure what psi it runs at sorry. But basically it has not caused nor created problems on my totally stock motor.
