For the '99, Ford recommended 5W-30. After 2001 or 2002, they changed the recommendation to 5W-20 (the reasons have been discussed dozens of times).

They might have moved the 5W-20 recommendation back via service bulletin, but I don't remember.

They changed the recommendation in 2001 due to CAFE reasons. You should be fine with either 5w-20 or 5w-30. Just make sure to change the oil regularly.

One of the reasons they switched to 5W20 01+ was
for better fuel economy.I would run Mobil 1 5W30 all
year around.

5w30, Penzoil, Valvoline, Mobil 1, whatever you like really. Just be sure to change it every 3000m or less, and to change the filter at reccomended intervals.
