I miss being all buff from my ol' martial arts days of yore. Trained first in Shaolin Kempo under some dude that later turned out to be a scam artist that took off one day with everyone's money and a bunch of equipment, but at least it got me some basics. I later trained under Earl Walker in Jeet Kune Do concepts, mostly focused on kickboxing and grappling (this was back when the UFC was only on its 3rd championship, when Royce Gracie was THE man to beat), and I did some weapons training independently - never got extremely good at that part, but I was fairly proficient, and it was fun. Once I got out of high school and started working for a living, though, I had less and less time to train, couldn't afford the classes (working at Wal-Mart and living on my own = EXTREMELY BROKE), and so I dropped out of the gig and tried to train on my own for awhile. By the time I got a job as a corrections officer, though, I just got downright lazy and couldn't keep myself with a regular training schedule on my own and nobody to train with, so ... yeah. That was like 10 years ago, now. And I'm STILL too lazy to train on my own, STILL have no one local to train with, and STILL can't afford the time/money to get into classes for anything again.

Anyway. Hope you're starting to heal up by now, mang.

you know i actually think your near one of my instructors old students that moved to arizona and became chief instructor of a studio.
As far as having no one to train with, yes you can get better a whole lot faster if you have a partner, but i havnt had a steady partner in a while something about me going to hard and no one wanting to train with me wusses, but you CAN train on your own, it may not seem appealing to everyone but i really do enjoy all the pain involved hot coal training, punching bricks, kicking rope wrapped trees, kneeing the heavy bags for hours on end, elbowing tree branches over and over, forearm training on parking pilons, does that make me an odd person......well yes it does but it all helps, is it gonna come back to haunt me, probably but a saying Sensei had "Leave knowing you did rather than wishing you had" you only get 1 shot at life so you might as well do what you enjoy, i enjoy working out and training, throwing up from fighting for hours on end, and having a body that resembles GSP's
And about me getting better, well thats not happening yet either i woke up with the worst headache ive had since i was knocked out 3 years ago but the biggest dude i know and my throat is still on fire from the damn strept,, and i get hungry and right as i make my food and am about to eat i lose my appetite so hopefully im fealing better by monday cause im goin nuts not punching something

Those are all pretty far away. There's a place not too far from my home for Shinkendo - I've been wanting to get some formal sword training for AGES - but I can't really afford it at this point in time and, even if I could, my work schedule would never let me get in enough sessions per week to really get as much practice as I'd really need/want.

well im sad to say it but unless your activly training all the time the only thing you really retain is the muscle memory everything else goes out the window, at least your not like some of these guys i see that say they got their black belt like 15 years ago so they dont need to train anymore, training is only really effective when you practice on a regular basis

i have a tournament next weekend, im not big on tournys though, the fighting aspect is unrealistic especially when your going for points, only thing tournys are good for is judging forms, forms give a good insight into just how good a person is at controlling their own body but just because someone's good at performing a form doesnt mean their a good fighter, the way i fight on the street and the way i fight in tournaments are very very different (i dont get in alot of street fights calm down people)in a tournament you cant strike below the belt, i.e. no groin, knee, leg, ankle strikes etc. also cant use biological strikes i.e. no throat, neck, eye, nerve strikes so if i lose a pont sparring match i dont take it too hard, the people i have lost to in point sparring i have never lost to when we actually spar in the dojo and thats not even how i really fight
