??????? on AOD Please assist.

I got my AOD out of an 89 Grand Marquie it's no electronic. i pulled my C6 out of my stang and had them side by side and my c6 is longer than the AOD. This should not be. Also I noticed the tail shaft is bigger by quite a bit so my exsisting yoke will not work. Is there anyway I can tell what the C6 is out of. I was told it is probably a truck tranny. Do any of you guys know a way for me to tell for sure?

See if you can find the build tag on it. Should be under one of the servo cover bolts or the rear housing bolts.

The AOD is approx. the same size as a C4 not a C6.

most small block c-6's are out of trucks, very few cars came equipped with a small block and a c-6. generally the c-6 only came behind 4bbl 351 clevelands in mustangs, torinos, cougars, etc. not very many were ever installed in any other cars or behind any other engines. but in trucks even the lowly 250 six banger could have had a c-6 behind it, it actually shares the same bellhousing as the small block so it could also be considered a "small block" c-6

I think we need some further input here. The C6 has an integral bellhousing (ie. NOT removable). It was the standard automatic transmission for BIG BLOCKS from the late 50's and up. the 260, 289, 302 and 351w are considered small block motors. The 351c is also considered a small block however, the 4v had the FMX transmission behind it (removable bellhousing). The FMX was also used extensively for HD applications on the small blocks. The big blocks (332, 352, 390, 428, 429, 460) mostly had C6's behind them. Does anyone have any different information than this? I guess we need to know if the bellhousing is removable or not on your transmission. It is very obvious if is is not.

It's not I just thought that both the c6 and the aod shared close to the same length and had the same size tailshaft (spline count and diameter) So thats why i was confused when I pulled it out of the car and put it beside the AOD and they where so much Different. Two people now have said the AOD and C4 are closer in size than the AOD and the c6. Is this a fact?
