Opinion on hood scoop

I ordered the cdc smooth hood scoop and have pics of it below out of the box, as you can see there are no holes up front just flat material, they send a black sticker to go there for a fake opening, but my car is already black and I think a hood scoop will look funny just being flat filled in material there with no opening for fake opening. I was thinking of cutting openings and adding mesh there, but then dirt and road debris will get in there, and be stuck between the hood and scoop, anyone have any ideas what to do, is there a mesh sticker out there that doesn’t look to cheesy, or maybe just put the mesh on top of the paint?

Honestly, there's little need for a real hoodscoop. A cowl hood would pull hot air off the motor, but this design won't do much for you. Cutting the hood would cut resale down, and you'll get junk on the motor (especially with the Detroit area weather). On top of that, the scoops that low tend not to actually pick up cool air, as the airstream across the top of most hoods is higher then the scoop can reach. Sure, race scoops or something like the STI has would work, but I'm doubting this one would do much for you.

You could try to get the honeycomb insert from an Appearance GT scoop? or get a honeycomb decal made and lay over the flat/matte black to accent the grille. This what I have done for some clients cars recently.

i'm not trying to make it functional, just look better, i figured if i just paint it black, the color of my car, and mount it like that it would look funny, just two flat black panels up front like that, if it was a diffrent color, and i installed the black stickers they gave with it it might be ok, but being on a black car i was looking to add something where the holes would go and add some interest..

My body shop guy talked me out of a hood scoop. He says the long hood looks best without a scoop. If you must do a hood scoop, you could cut some wire mesh from a gutter guard or something like that, paint it silver or something similiar and then secure it in place with glue, 3m tape or in some other way. A flat black might be OK if your paint is gloss, and I'm assuming it is.

Iam not much the "stick on hood scoops" I prolly just ticked alot of people off, but it my opinion. I f I had to have this scoop I'd do the flat black route. I got the quarter "stick on scoops on my car and rear window scoops as well. My paint shop did the satin black for the shadow look. It looks ok. Sorry to offend anyone, but the roush scoops are the chessiest thing you could put on your hood. Least your has some atitude to it

I've got your answer bro. Cut the suckers out, but leave a slight rolled edge. In other words if the plastic is say 1/8'' thick, cut it out to make it look as though it's 1/4'' thick. Glue your mesh screen in from the back with 5 minute epoxy. You can find that at the auto parts store. After that, glue in a piece of thick foam rubber behind the screen. Just make sure the foam rubber is black and has a good weather stripping kind of quality. Water won't get past it if you fit it right and it will look way better than what they have going on.

Hummmm, that seem like a lot of cutting ( cutting the hood, cutting the vent on the scoop). I might mess up the hood. I would just buy a new hood with a funtional scoop.
I bouth my hood from this company and I happy with it.

I actually thought about getting the CDC smooth hood scoop at first. I was going for the old GT500 look. But I didnt know they gave you stickers to imitate the look of the openings! I thought CDC was better then that. I decided to just go with the Shaker Hood, I too am not a big fan of non functional scoops. I would just return it and look for something better.
