I buy some Flowmaster tips to finish off my exhaust and proceed to take them up to a local muffler shop to have them installed. I notice beforehand that the original hangers are missing, because the previous owner was running the dumps. The exhaust shop said no problem, they would fab some up. Today is the first time I looked up under the bumper at their work from a little over a week ago. This is what I saw:

I have a broken hanger already, and they didnt even cut off the original bar, and just welded a new one on, so its ugly as hell! Freakin half assers! I threw the black spray paint on there so it wouldnt stand out as much... I think Im gonna head back up there and demand a better job be done. What do yall think? I think they should at least tack weld the damn hanger to my frame rail, cause their bolts obviously suck.

Well first off thats F'ing terrible. Just trying to get you in and get you out.

BUT... if you weren't 100 percent specific with what you wanted done you are also partly to blame.

I would bring the car back, be REASONABLE with the person who did it, clearly explain what you are expecting, and work out a compromise on a discounted rate. This way the guy likes you enough to put some effort into the job, and you're not paying full price, and the worse that can happen is you don't go there ever again.

The owner/manager guy is a huge mustang fan, even has a pony tatoo on his arm. He was complimenting me up and down about my car, and how he would take care of me... I should have looked at it before I left, but they drove it out front and left it running for me, so I just paid and left. I happen to notice the one pipe hangin down a little lower than the other today and looked to see the cheapest friggin rig job ever... I just feel like I was cheated. I paid $90 for that?! I even cut off the damn dumps for them! I guess I should have been more specific about what I wanted, but I didnt think I needed to give them measurements, and tell them I wanted it done better than a two year old does it... I might just go up to my Dad's shop and use his welder and do it myself. I guess I thought I shouldnt have had to ask for a quality job since they are in business to do exhuast work... Sorry Adam, I dont mean to be a dick to your response, Im just pissed off at the quality of parts and service I have been getting lately. Why go into business to do something, and then half ass it, and then charge close to $100 for 20 minutes of ****ty work? I posted this up to see if any of yall agreed with the piss poor quality of work I see, or if I am just too picky?

I would either go there or call... worst case is that you are still doing it yourself...

As for the fix I would simply cut off the extra hanger and re-bolt the bracket myself... But hey, that's me...

It would bother me depending on how uneven your pipes were but other then that who's going to see what it looks like under the car? Maybe Im saying that b/c its not mine either but if your not happy with the work then take it back and see what you can have done.

Thanks guys, I was just annoyed with a lot of stuff yesterday and it put me over the edge. I think I will cut the extra bars off myself and just have them weld the hanger on. Their bolt broke off in my frame rail, so I cant just bolt it back up without drilling out the old bolt... I dont want to do all that work after paying them $90 to put me in that situation. I got an appt for saturday, and I plan on playing it cool, but pointing out that I am not satisfied with job that was done.

You didn't mention the pipes were not even! 90 percent of the exhaust work I've ever done has been on a piece of cardboard in a concrete floored garage. If I can get the pipes even in that setting a professional exhaust shop damn sure better get them even. Thats the kind of thing that would drive me insane. I measure mine with a tape measure before I'm done.

Exhaust shops seem to be hit and miss... I had one here in town weld up my catback, and one tip sticks out about 1-1/5" than the other. Always check out the work before leaving...

Well, they were pretty even, just not now after that mount broke off the frame rail. I dont even know how he had it bolted on. The bolt doesnt stick out the opposite side of the frame rail, otherwise I would just pull it out and rebolt it up there. But I can see marks on the mount from the head of a bolt, and there is a busted bolt in the frame rail on the side that the pipe mounts to... Thats why Im gonna just ask them to weld it instead of having to wait for them to drill that old bolt out.
