ok stangnet. well, i was thinking of selling my fox for about $1000 once i clean it up and getting looking decent for what it is. i was thinking of financing a car. not any car, a mustang. but not a new mustang. i have a few choices. I need your opinions before i go to my parents. i need reasons to have this car. but anyways, its on ebay and i can finance it through there. I want a reliable nice daily driver. im putting a min. of $300 down payment.

1999 Mustang Cobra ($170/mo for 60 months)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars...arms=39:1|65:7|240:1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

1994 Mustang Cobra. ($159/mo for 36 months)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars...arms=39:1|65:7|240:1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

1986 Mustang SVO ($133.17/mo for 48 months)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars...727|39:1|65:12|240:1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

I would have to get these shipped to me except the 2 cobras. one of them is like 10 min from my house. possibly less. what do you think i should do? and all prices are with a mere $300 down payment

Plus banks give car loans based on car value - you'd never be able to get a loan on that SVO.

I forgot about that, also factor in your credit and such, not sure if they do these things with the online payment stuff. Also throwing down more than the minimum never hurts, just knocks those payments down. Remember paying for a car for a long time, means your actually paying a lot more for that car.

I stand by my statement (and I have one car payment)...

Payments suck.

yeah . . . payments do suck . . . but an unreliable car sucks more.

I am assuming that you need your parents as a cosigner ? As, if you are old enough to finance your own vehicle than you are old enough to not need their approval to buy a car from your parents. With that said . . . my first step . . . though this may sound stupid is to make a list. One for each car with two columns. One column for positives ( reliability, newer, less mileage, safer etc etc ) and one for negatives ( payments, insurance, etc etc )

while all 3 cars are "broken in" all three look in fairly decent shape and come at a decent price. I am not sure if financing a 22 year old 86 SVO is realistic but if Ebay will go for it, it's not a bad buy if you are looking for a good gas mileage car, though it does have some mileage on it, plus you'll have to have that one delivered - chock up a negative.

the '94 Cobra has alot of mods on it . . . that could be good, or bad . . .

personally, I'd go for the '99, if any

I would consider how much the car is going to cost you to run for the next 3 years ( payment + insurance + gas ) versus how much your current car will cost you if it even still runs. On a newer Cobra and assuming your young age I imagine your insurance cost will probably be more than your car payment. I bought my '92 5.0 when I was 19, the payment was 305 a month and the insurance was around 350 a month . . . with no violations . . . something to keep in mind.

Good Luck with your car, I hope things work out for the best for ya.

A bank is not going to lend you money on a 86 or a 94. The 99 is borderline. The only way you are making payments on the 2 older ones is if you take a personal loan.

well insurance and title would be under my dad for insurance purposes, and for the ones who said to keep the fox, i cant. that thing is about to fall apart. i have a messed up transmission that i have to shift it manually from 1 to 2 to D then OD. and then on the highway, my overdrive wont kick in, so if i go like 70, itll be revving around 4500. its a hastle and that guzzles my gas. i love the car, but i cant keep it going like that. the car stutters sometimes at red lights and has even turned off on me. and the IAC is $100 at autozone. im gonna look for one at the junkyard but its seriously a PITA

do you honestly think buying a 94 or an 86 is going to improve things?
besides with the economy and the world market today I shudder to think how difficult it would be to finance any vehicle much less an older one. you already have the Mach 1 as a toy if you buy another older car then you are basically buying another project and you may as well write of the 71.

FWIW, if you are dead set on buying another car. get a honda, geo, escort, insert econobox name here( ). the insurance will be much lower and the gas wont eat you out of house and home. plus the chance of you modding said econo car is much lower therefore reliability will not be an issue.

Personally IMHO the 2.3 fox is a great DD. I drove mine for 3 years before I put a v8 into it and I kind of regret doing that. the four banger ran like a champ and the only time it left me stranded was when the timing belt snapped. go to a JY grab all the drivetrain gear for a 5spd swap and call it a day( I paid 200 for everything). ditching that retarded A4LD will shave at least 50-70 lbs off the weight of the car and reduce drive train loss by quite a bit = a huge kick in the pants and a smile on the face when you start it back up for the first time.

Agreed 100%..

do a 5 speed swap to the car and call it a day. Keep the fox

hell i was going to get something newer instead decided to keep my 1992 jeep cherokee. I did all the maintenance to it to keep it running longer. Best decision i made. Its not a nice looking truck but gets me back an forth and allows me to save money AND work on my project stang!!!

Keep your car because 5.0s aren't worth very much. Get a used civic or corolla. That way you have your toy and an econo box with cheap insurance, reliability and great gas mileage.

prepaid college and your friends mom is going to accept monthly payments.

yeah that always works out great until you piss your friend off and they come re-po the car b/c you dont have a title. not to mention how you are going to register and insure it without said title. unless they give the title to you first at which point you sell the car and pocket the 3g.
but seriously, you have too much time/money on your hands if you are going through cars like you do. fix the damn 4 banger.
