For anyone in Mass, Acton Ford does have a couple '05s there, and you can take them out.

My dad and I headed over in my 95 saturday afternoon. The salesman literally met us as we were walking towards the door, hadn't even gone into the building yet. He heard/saw mine when I was pulling in and said, "Looks about time for a new one." which I didnt like to much but whatever, we werent gonna buy anything anyways.

Ill just skip to the good part, the car is pretty damn nice. My first thought as I looked at it in preson is that its a mix between our cars, a 69, and a BMW, especially with the front wheels forward.

It feels rock solid and as expected the handling is heads and tails above the SN95s. In terms of power, it felt very similar to an '01 Bullitt that I have driven. The stock shifter doesn't even suck that bad. It also had the Shaker 1000 option, which is the premium 1000 watt sound package. Trust me, it THUMPS. We didn't beat on it that bad, I did nail an on-ramp in second and held second and third until close to redline, eventually got the car up to 115ish in fifth. It's power band is pretty high in the RPMs, which is a lot different then I am used to. Its still easy to smoke them, my dad left a nice little strip without trying too hard.

In terms of downsides: I was not sold on the instrument cluster at all. While more aesthetically pleasing, they definately chose form over function in my opinion. Our car didn't have the interior upgrade package, so I couldn't play with the "my color" option. The tach and speedo only use 1/2 of the circle they are in, so the numbers feel crunched in, where they shouldn't have to be.

The three rotary ac / fan / temp knob panel was also right behind the shifter so you have to reach around it in order to adjust settings.

The interior of the car is so well put together that I couldn't picture after market guages in there, unless they were done very tastefully. For example, an MSD Boost Retard, which looks fine in our cars, would throw off the whole look of the new car. We had a silver / brushed aluminum scheme, and I have to say that it was a little to "blah." I was hoping they had a porno red one but alas, it was not meant to be.

Thats all I can think of for now, anyone else have any '05 experiences?

They only have V-6ers in our area... I wasn't impressed with the looks of them. Didn't even care to drive one. The car needs the spoiler and the wheels to make it complete. Oh that and the V-8...

So, im wondering on how all these lower rpm power advocates feel with these new stangs being higher rpm power makers and weighing more than our stangs?

I saw a V-6 and wasn't impressed at all. The body feels/looks cheap, it looked way better in magazine pictures. The door handle feels like it's going to brake if i put just a bit more force on it when opening it. The a/c controls are right out of a ford focus. So i don't know, didn't even want to drive it. Maybe a GT will be more impressive.

i went to my local ford dealer and all they had was 1 v6. not impressed with the looks personally. told me that the GTs wouldn't be in for another 3-4 weeks. piss me off...

also, sooooo not liking the hood. just nothing there. they now have the washer fluid nossles on the hood now. there goes easy aftermarket hood installs.

I went and looked at a GT this weekend and had some mixed feelings. I didn't drive it, but just looked and sat inside. I like the exterior, except the grill on the GT looks plastic and cheap. The GT's need a billet grill and a hood scoop and they would look 10x better. Also, I liked the interior, except for the instrument clusters. Even without driving the car they look like they would be hard to see and (as stated above) only half the area is used. I'd still take one in a heartbeat.

Ford blew into my town this past weekend and was letting peeps drive the new GT Stang around a little track they made with cones at Cowboy Stadium.

My thoughts of it are:

It was new
It looked great
It handled great
It was very smooth

IT WAS A DOG!!!

No low end torque whatsoever

When I told my best friend my thoughts about my test drive he said that on his drive he dumped the clutch at 3k rpm and it just bogged off the line.

Typical mod motor behavior if you ask me.

I'm not joking guys, that Stang had nothin down low. It needed at least 3/4 of a turn more gear and prob more would not hurt as their redline is higher.

The all mighty Cobra was such a dog down low that Ford had to add a blower as a crutch.

Don't know if anybody has noticed the change I made to my sig about three weeks ago but I think it says best how I feel about Ford's time tested small block motor.

I looked at a Red GT last thurs. I wanted to test drive it but no salesmen were around ( go figure ) and I was short on time anyway. It did look nice I'll give it that. They had it locked to which was stupid b/c it was sitting right next to the dealership door, would have been nice to sit in it but I'll try it again this weekend.

I'm not saying your wrong Grady, because I tend to agree with you. I wonder why the mod motors are such dogs down low. The 4-valve motor's ports aren't THAT big. I wonder if the valves are too big? I can't see someone blaming the sole reason of the loss of low-end torque on the OHC design. I'm curious now....

Lack of cubic inches. Cubic inches make low end torque. Thats why stroker motors have so much more torque. The mod motors are only 281 ci motors. The overhead cam design makes more power up top because they rev easier because you don't have pushrods. The cam is basically sitting on the valves so it revs easier and higher so thats where the powerband is gonna be.

for some reason the new stangs make me love my 95 gt that much more. At least i have functional side scoops, as every true sportscar should, makes the car look sweet!!! And what you guys are saying about the lack of low end power makes me really wonder whether i'd have as much fun in an 05 as i do in my sn95. Maybe i just need to drive one, but so far it doesn't get my vote.

Don't fall into believing that.

Piston speed makes low-speed torque. The mod motors have much greater piston speeds than a 5.0. I'm pretty sure they have greater piston speeds than a 347, too.

I'm still puzzled....

Well I've yet to see a GT in person but I was driving to work today and Hayward Ford finally got their first 05......

A BABY **** Green V6. Who in their right mind would ever buy a car that color. My god someone was sleeping on the job when they put that color onto the options list.

However I am curious about the new 05's power. I cant wait for them to get a GT so I can see if they are really as gutless as you guys say.

Some how I doubt it considering my car runs 14's. LOL
