I was recently informed by another Ford aficionado that our 'new' Mustang's V6 motor has a long history dating back to a European Ford V4 motor developed in the Postwar years in Germany.

The key to their heritage is in the same narrow 60 deg V angle of these motors that were used in the Taunus and Cortina & Capri in Europe and numerous other English Fords in the 1960's and `70's.

The Mustang II also shared this motor if I'm not mistaken (obviously with push rods and lifters)

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who can expand on these 'facts'.
