I read the other day about some proposed legislation where the Calif Air Resources Board (CAB) is considering banning the selling of black and other very dark colored cars in CA. (I kid you not!) What next for this dumb state?? As dark absorbs more of the suns rays, it heats the car body more, then when you get in you have to run the AC more, etc, etc. It's a gas saving, hence smog reducing, initiative.

Thats what happens when you have bleeding hart liberals (Al Gore, Obama and the rest of the left wing loons) allowing special interest groups influence the way the country is run.

actually wasn't even an april fools joke.. it came up on autoblog last week... but there was a followup article on how CARB said oh no wait, we're not going to do this. they're sticking with how every car will need a reflective coat on their windows.

I wish the lawmakers and policy makers in this state were fools only on April 1st. Nope, we're not that lucky. Out here in Cowleefournya, they're fools all year round. I'm a native and so I'm always hearing people saying, "You're kidding, right? There isn't a law like that really." I just have to hang my head and say, "Sorry, but it's true."

There is a difference between Liberals and left wing loonies...
Banning black cars = left wing loonies...lets not tie the two together.

California rules, and I'd NEVER live anywhere else!!

The CARB is a pain in the ass though. My 95 GT got put on a list because one time at a smog test, the guy noticed my fuel pressure regulator. From them on, I had to furnish paperwork and E.O. numbers for all of my mods. The only one I couldn't get a number on what that damn regulator. So I just took it off, had the car smogged and put it back on.

If any of you guys had ever driven through L.A., you wouldn't wonder why we try to do whatever we can to reduce emissions.

Well when everyone moves out of their state and the people come to places like Florida and Texas, they'll lose their ass in revenue, and their act will straighten up.

Sorry, but it's usually EXACTLY the opposite. I only know a few native Californians, (like myself ). The VAST majority of people I know moved here from other states.

We did have people moving out when the housing market got completely insane a few years ago. But now that real estate is in the toilet, I might actually be able to afford a house.

I'm still waiting for an "April Fools!" from the author of this thread.

So, if this IS true, what is going to be done with the countless cars that are ALREADY black or dark colored? Will people need to paint them? Get rid of them?

This is lame. I could understand trying to lower emissions (I've driven through LA and the air is one of the reasons I hate being there, lol) but it seems like a lame way of doing it. Why not try to ban the cars that create the most smog? No, let's just ban the COLORS of cars! That'll save the Earth! Brilliant!

The only reason I stay here is to be close to the family. If they weren't here i'd be gone in a heartbeat. This state is the WORST state for owning a car. So many bull***** laws here it's insane. We have strict emissions testing and have to register our vehicles every year.... It went up dramatically this year too darien.... just wait till you have to renew yours.

Screw Californistan

Well I can tell you that you are completely wrong. I can tell you 100s of people that moved from Cali to Texas or Arizona. Me being one of them. I mean the beaches are nice, but thats about it. There a parts that rock but then when you come to dumb laws and liberals Id much rather be in Texas. The ONLY reason most people move to California is for acting and thats about it
