Paint Job in a Can???

I just finished applying my epoxy primer to my 88GT. This car is strictly for the track so I'm not TOO worried about the aesthetics of it. I've heard you can get some kinda paint from a can that does decent work and that there is also a clear coat in a can.

I have an HVLP spray gun which I primered my car with. Can I do the paint job/clear coat with an HVLP. I don't see why not. I would RATHER do it from a rattle just because I don't really like using my paint gun.

I've heard that I can go to a ford dealership and get any STOCK FORD color in a touch up spray. I was thinking of painting the whole car with RAVEN BLACK. It was on the old BOSS's.

Any info on this subject would be great. I will post pics as soon as I know what I'm doing for paint.

I have bought Duplicolor brand automotive spray paint at Advance Auto Parts to repaint the side molding. It matched dead on with the stock paint...in their book at the store, it was listed as the proper color, but I asked them if I could take it out to compare the sample color cap to the actual paint and it looked good.

Now, doing the entire car would be a LOT of those cans and a LOT of time.

The clear coat they sell works very well too.

It is all about patience though.

Yeah I bet it would be a lot of cans to fully mask my gray primer to raven black/flat black. I'm gonna see about getting paint for my HVLP gun.

If you are looking for the highest level of gloss and durability from a rattle can, then go to a home depot and look in their spray paint section for

"appliance epoxy" , $5 per can

I was forced to paint my spoiler seperate from the rest of the car a month after my single stage polyurethane paintjob and in all honesty

1. the rattle can epoxy stuff is shinier
2. The epoxy stuff is every bit as strong
3. didnt require the suit and the gun and playing with isocyanides.

So give it a try, paint a test panel. You will be very pleased with it.

Dont half ass it, if you want to paint it black spray it from your gun, black is the cheapest color.

spray it with the gun, rattle cans are for small things.

oh and raven black didnt come on the bosses. 69 boss 302s came in yellow calypso coral, acapulco blue and wimbleden white

70 yellow grabber green blue orange calypso coral wimbledon white and medium lime green mettalic

This is what i did. I painted my car with KRYLON, thats right KRYLON, then i cleared it with automotive grade clear with a hvlp gun. it turned out good for a back yard paint job. very little money in my paint. here is my car... http://gotstang.com/profile.php?dedge&page=1
