Back in the day I used duplicolor paint and primer from walmart to paint my front bumper when it started chipping off. It was a great color match, and the paint stuck until I did the job right. Plus, the duplicolor stuff was only $4-$5 a can at walmart. Check duplicolor.com for the color match, or I think they have a book with paint codes at Walmart.
It cost me $80 to get mine painted. Save up, it's not that much and it's certainly not worth ruining your insert. For god sakes, offer to work it off at the body shop scrubbing their toilet.
