Everyone thinks all I do is trash the Mustang. I love this car but I also point out its faults!! As I said from day 1 this stereo is the worst piece of trash I ever owned when it comes to factory stereos. My 22K WRX had a far better factory stereo than this junk! Ford ripped me off with the Skanker 500 but the poor guys who got suckered into the Skanker 1000 got screwed even worse than I did! The speakers and amplifiers are Chinese trash and the head unit has to be the slowest user unfriendly head unit I ever had. The Skanker 1000 gives you the luxury of losing a third of your trunk space for 2 Chinese junk speakers that are powered by an amplifier thats a little better than what powers the speakers in my laptop computer! You gotta give Ford ALOT of credit. They marketed this trash so well that people STILL think its a good stereo!! They couldn't even place the speakers in the door properly. If you want to install separates you need to cut holes in the door in order to properly install the tweeters. Any decent car say a Lexus, Infiniti etc has the tweeters placed up high, usually near the door handle. This way when you replace the tweeters you can simply put them in the same place as the stock tweeters. Skanker 500 or Skanker 1000: LOW BUDGET TRASH!!!

Come to Canada Man. I ordered my convertable from the dealer and he told me 8 weeks wait. It arrived in 4 weeks, which he tells me is happening with all there orders.

I had to replace the subs in my expedition and it was a Mach system. I could not find an aftermarket speacker that was rated for 2 ohms. Based on those pictures these are the same 1.2 or 2 ohms so is there a aftermarket replacement?

Earl - So if I understand correctly, the Shaker 500 speaker setup consists of: 2 componet 6x8s in the front (4 inch midrange and 1 inch tweeter), 2 8-inch woofers in the front, and 2 6x8 inch woofers in the rear deck. Did you notice if the rear deck speakers were a woven material with rubber surrounds? Those were what Ford used in the Mach 460 for the 6x8 woofers in the previous Mustangs...If what you say is true, and the only full range signal goes to the front doors, I wonder if those component speakers are getting 30W RMS instead of the 15W in the older Mustangs, since the high pass signal is only going to 2 speakers now (In my Explorer limited, the high pass signal is split up between the front and rear door speakers...15W RMS each, and then there's the 85W 8-inch subwoofer in the back. In the Mach 460, the high pass signal was split up between the 4 2.5 inch midrange speakers as well)

Not sure why you are seeing what you are... I replaced the rear and door speakers (Rockford Fosgate 6 x 8) and I am getting a full range of sound in the rear and in the doors as well. The only issue I am having is finding a suitable 8" Dual voice coil sub for the doors. By suitable I mean soimething that may fit without having to do any fiberglass work on the door panel in order to fit them. The JL Audio 8" rock, but they are expensive and require some fiber work.

I have the standard single play CD in my 05 Deluxe. The rear speakers are the same p/n as the speakers in my wifes 03 Taurus, and the same as in my 03 Focus. It looks like Ford has gone to the same 5x7 speaker in all applications.

I like my factory HU. I thought about adding a Mach 460 rear setup, its better sound and pretty easy to come by. Dont know about the wiring though.

I have a set of Pioneer 4-ways that I was going to put in the rear deck, just havent gotten around to it yet.

Guys, look at the MBR 8's by Kicker, the DEI Neo 8, Tang Band 8, RE 8, Elemental 8Kv2, or MAYBE the Adire Koda 8. These should all work well in the factory hole due to smallish motor structures (especially the TB and the Neo).

If you did not replace your factory head unit, amps, and wiring - I assure you you are NOT getting a full range signal to the replacement door and rear speakers. It simply isn't possible as the factory amps have a crossover that controls that.

Now if you put in 2 ways - then there isn't going to be alot of difference between the factory and those as far as sound reproduction. You may think all is fine....but put in 3 or 4 ways and you'll hear a signifant difference.

Instead of going through the door, I more than likely going to just put some kick panels that will hold A 5.25 component system. you lose leg room, but mines going to be an auto anyway. Q logic should have something soon. did the same thing on my ranger. only bad thing is you gotta cut the holes for the speakers yourself.

if your theory on factory crossover is correct, it doesn't matter how many "ways" you "put in" the range will be the same.are you saying ford narrowed the range of Hz to something less than full?

Basically.

A frequency crossover mechanism directs frequencies either above or below certain hz signals to different sources - hence mid and highs are directed to the component mid and tweeters in the doors, lows to the subs, and a signal appropriate for the wimpy paper cone rears to the rear speakers - but not full range signals. If one replaces the factory speakers with 4-ways like I did your overall sound is much better - don't get me wrong. But it isn't the same as if you were using a true 4 channel amplifier and not utilizing a crossover to distribute signal ranges to the various speakers.

Took mine to my favorite stereo shop like 2 days after I brought her home.

I went three-way in the front with Kicker 8's and Focal 6 1/2" separates (tweeter in the door panel above the midrange driver that's in the factory mount) and Focal 6 1/2" midrange drivers in the deck for rear fill (tweeters are in there next to them, but it sounds better without them so they're disconnected). Pair of 12's in the trunk. Love the sound.

I am a car audio installer and have worked on a few of the '05's with the 500 and 1000 systems. The first time the guy left everything alone but I put an amp to the 2 8's using a line out converter and there was no ill effect besides louder and clearer bass surprisingly. I myself will have everything sitting in the garage waiting for the '05 when it arrives.....all kicker products including, 2 sets of SS 5 1/4 components, pair of SSMB8's for front doors, 2 L7 10's, SX1250.1, SX7004, SX4002 and an SXRC processor. The SSMB8's only have a mounting depth of 2.25in which should clear-does anyone have measurements on the mounting depth of the stock 8's? BTW the shaker will be ripped out for a rewire of the car. I tried to order the car with a basic stereo but could not get it with the premium even though the damn car hasnt been built. I will have plenty of pictures this summer when this thing gets here-hopefully.

Delurker, if you have Focals in the front and agood amp you probably have the best sounding stereo on Stangnet. I had to sell my s#it for the down payment on the car. I hope you replaced that two dollar whore Skanker stereo head unit? NOTHING COMPARES TO FOCALS!! MB Quarts run a pretty close second!! BTW: If you installed sparates in the doors did you locate the tweeters in the proper place (unlike the idiots at Ford) by cutting the door panel and placing them up by the door handle area?

Excon, listen to a set of diamond audio hex components with a lot of power to them. You may change your mind. I compete against focal, mb quartz, soundstream and other high end stuff and ALWAYS win. give em a try.

I am familiar with how crossovers work. I also know you will never get the sound quality from coax, triax, four way that you will from components.Your statement that the crossover in the factory amp(s) limits the bandwidth would mean that no matter which speaker you install would play within the same range. you are saying the factory stereo does not play the full range.do a little more research and get back with me.

Haven't heard them yet! My experience has been with the general garbage thats out there like Pioneer, Polk Sony, etc and then quality like MB Quarts and Focals. I have yet to hear a better speaker than Focals but then again I thought MB Quarts were the best till Focal came along! I'll check em out!!

Heh, I'm using ARC Audio amps - 3 of them (4x75 for mids/highs, 2x100 for the 8" Kicker midbass drivers, and a 1000 watt monoblock amp to drive the 2 Diamond Audio TDX 12's in the trunk). Fronts are Focal Utopia, rear deck are Focal PolyKevlar.

Yep, the tweeters are mounted into the door panel above the factory location. I'll try to snap some pics tonight.

Skanker 500 is in a box in my closet, replaced by an Eclipse head unit and an Audio Control HPX. Audio Control digital EQ and digital crossover are under plexiglass in the trunk with the amps where the spare tire used to be. 4 1-farad caps back there in the trunk too.

What a differerance from that piece of trash Ford suckers everyone into and it probably cost just a bit more than what the Skanker 1000 runs!! And those HORRIBLE speaker covers at the bottom of the door have been replaced. Nice looking job!!
