My 98GT was pingin liek crazy even at highway speeds when you gave it just a touch of throttle to go up a hill or pass someone. I just put a new O2 sensor (had a CEL) and it doesn't ping at all now.

with the PI head swap the pinging should have done nothing but get worse, by increasing compression.

He's talking about just replacing the cracked intake, not the complete headswap.

I though about that, but I do not have a CEL. And if it is the O2's, then something is causing them to go bad, which is the root of my problem. The H-pipe I am swapping in will allow me to rule them off the list if it still pings after installation.

I'll put my money on a "dirty" MAF sensor.

Experienced the same symptoms (clatter on WOT, no horsepower). Cleaned the MAF with contact cleaner, and now she runs like the proverbial "Raped Ape"!

carbon buildup in egr port can cause an accel. ping. take the egr valve off and inspect the port if buldup is present clean it & install egr valve .my wifes 94 cougar 4.6l had the same problem & that fixed it. also the correct way to clean the maf is take it off & spray the wires w/carb. cleaner do not touch the wires.
