platinum spark plugs?

I need to replace my spark plugs on my 2.3 turbo mustang ive been posting everywhere about. I was looking at platinum spark plugs, and was wondering if they were worth the extra cost over regular plugs? Thanks guys.

Honestly, the best plugs for Mustangs are the super cheap copper ones.

Edit: I'm not sure if that still holds true with a turbo...someone will chime in.

I believe that platinum spark plugs burn hotter, which is bad for a turbocharged motor because they are hot enough already. It will just cause a tuning nightmare. Get the super-cheap copper ones.

This is not the reason but yet, platinums are junk. Pick up stock Motorcraft plugs and only use Motorcraft wires as well.

the motorcraft plugs through autozone are 1.69 and the platinums are from 1.99 to 4.59. you don't need that.

What you do need is the iridium plugs for 13.99Each. Be sure to come to my store to buy them though.

Platinum is just there to make the plug last longer. Absolutely no performance gain to be noticed that I know of.

I knew I wasn't totally on drugs.

At least Ford is kinda making up for putting 8 spark plugs in the four cylinder engine by letting us use cheap spark plugs.

me ive always ran autolights from walmart and i use Bosch wires from autozone.

Copper is a better conductor of electricity. Only reason platnium plugs were developed was because platnium is hard and if you put them in a caddy, you don't have to change them for 75,000 miles. No performance gain at all

platinum is also known to burn/conduct heat more than a copper core plug. Yes its designed to last longer, but that is what makes is bad ina turbo aplication. hot-spoting is bad for detonation in nitrous/boost enviorments....n/a you really dont gotta worry about it , unless you are running 14:1 compression ratios

Stinger what is he to be careful of ? iradiums do have a pretty good fan base,along with little negative feedback...they 'seem' to be a pretty decent plug for high boost applications. Of course, me being me, i would sooner pump 5$/gal race gas than put a 14$ spark plug in

Iridiums do "seem" to be a good turbo plug....I can buy alot of Motorcraft plugs for the price of one of them though.

I run MotorCraft all the way on my SVO 2.3T. As for my 2.3L LX I use the singe stage Plats which work really good on my car but may switch to MotorCraft on it just to compare.

Why don't you just use the same plugs that were in the car, cause the car has a swapped motor in it and they seem to work fine, right?

Do NOT run platinum in a turbo or any other type of power adder motor. They run a lot hotter to stay clean and you are asking for detonation!!!!!!! Run Motorcraft!
