regarding the 1969 or 1970 Mach I, was the hood scoop in this pic ever stock? If not, would I be able to take the stock, non-functioning hood scoop off my 1969 Mach I and replace it with this monster?

That is a Boss 429 scoop. Standard on 1969 Boss 429. It too I believe was non-functional though, but any scoop could be made functional.

It is indeed a Boss 429 style scoop, and they are readily available from a number of sources. Check around and you should be able to find one for under $100 easy.

BTW,

The Boss 429 scoops were indeed functional, directing air into the air cleaner assembly that sealed against the bottom of the hood.

Exxxcellent... I wasn't sure, but I'm glad it is.
