plug reading with PIC

I pulled two plugs from my car and they look different. The one on the right has a little white on it. The one on the left has no white on it.



The gap is supposed to be .030, but it looks like the left on is closer than the right. Could a gap too big cause this?

The one on the right also appears to have some oil on it. Or does it just look that way in the pic?

Are you talking about around the threads? I think that might be anti-size


The gap on the left one was less than .020. I guess it was just gapped wrong.

The gap on a 5.0 is .054, FYI

To really read plugs you will need to "get on it" and go threw the RPM range. Then stop shut the car off and pull the plugs with as little (none is best) non WOT time on them.
