i have eliminated my smog pump and want to plug all the lines.....the line that runs to the x-pipe i blocked off but im tryin to decide what to do about the lines that run to the heads....there is a bulb shaped thing in the tubing that i believe is a one way valve....if i just leave this on with with heads be plugged?...also would anyone happen to know what size bolts i would need if i removed the lines from teh back of the heads to plug them?

I think what most people do is put some hose on it, and then put a bolt in to the hose.. I think you can also use a thermactor plug .. or something like that.. there's a thread not too far down with the answer.

I've heard that you can actually go right up to your local ford parts counter and ask for it as a "Smog Plug" for the cylinder heads.

I'm doing a cylinder head article for Muscle Mustangs& Fast Fords and after asking around a little that's what I found. I haven't ordered them yet, nor do I have a part number. I'll be sure and post it when I do.

i got a bypass plug in the help section of the parts store. i just removed the rubber hoses from the smog pump and put a plug over the tubing that goes back to the heads. i also removed the tube going back to the midpipe. i had to use a rotary tool and cut it in three places before it was able to slide out. go to the parts store and get the rubber bypass plugs.

These are what I used. They are a pain in the ass to get in because of all the soot buildup inside the hole.

I've done it by welding the smog tube or using a 5/8 11 bolt about 3/4" or 1" long. To use the bolt as a plug you'll need to figure out a way to get the carbon out of the hole. This will be a difficult task with the engine in the car. With the heads off the car I use a wire brush drill bit that looks like a christmas tree to get the carbon out.

So is there a one way check valve for the smog lines or do you have to plug them? I am also about to delete the smog because the lines are directly in the way of my discharge tube/bypass valve.
