Hey Guys,

A discussion in the following thread prompted me to post this poll:

http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/804737-02-gt-maf-housing-cracked.html

Basically, I want to know if when you put on a cold air intake (regardless of brand) if you kept the wire-mesh filter that came before the MAF on the stock intake. Steeda has told me to discard it with their intake, while others have said it is necessary to smooth airflow.

A picture of the piece I am talking about is attached to this thread.

The K@N CAI needs the screen or you'll have stalling. The C@L does'nt.

You see, it only matters if you CAI is built for it, I'm more worried about your MAF housing, what did you decide, please don't JB Weld. It might hold but, it will crack further, the integrity of the MAF housing is already ruined!

I should also note that the crack is by one of the bolts at the base, so with the weld it shouldn't have any impact on airflow while I need to have it on. I would just leave it garaged till tomorrow night but I have an appointment to have my steeda full length subframes, magnaflow catback and xpipe installed that I don't want to miss.

I put a K&N fipk, on my 01 gt. The instructions said not to use the sreen, so I left it out. No issues.
Ran the same as with the stock intake.
With the stock air filter the air is drawn in through the sides, but with the fipk, the air is drawn in straight through the filter,as well as though the sides. That may be why they feel the screen isn't necessary.
