So my low oil light came on, and i've already had to put 1 qt. in my engine and i changed the oil only 1300 miles ago. Its leaking some, but not that much, so i guess its burning a lot of oil...maybe the rings are bad, i know my front main and rear main leak but not 2 qts. every 3k miles. This sucks

Just a longshot, but take a look at your PCV. If it's bad, it might be allowing oil into your intake, and you could be burning it off from there. And please don't sell the Mustang, I've always liked it. It looks like mine

I really don't think it'd allow a ton, but maybe a combination of the leaking seals + PCV? Just an idea I wanted to toss out there hoping for something simple. I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya!

Ya know what man... My car needs a rear main seal and it loses 1qt every 1k miles or so... it doesn't drip on the ground or anything either... so you may actually be losing that much oil out the seals... mine gets worse in the cold weather... I think I lose oil on startup then as things warm up it seals better...

Do you see a cloud of bluish smoke behind your car as you drive? Cause if your rings were leaking that bad you would really be smoking out of your exhaust.

yea excessive crank case pressure can make your leaky seals even worse. Check your pcv valve and make sure no pcv hoses are pinched.

First of all, don't worry about it. It is pretty normal. Just replace the seal when you are ever in there for some reason or take the time to just do them for the hell of it. I would never put a rear main in unless you are doind a clutch or something though. THey always leak even when then are new. So it would be worth it. If your car runs great, what the problem?? Run it!!

A buddy of mine had one cracked oil control ring on his '95 GT (with only 76k miles) and burned about a quart every 250 miles. And it really didn't smoke out the exhaust nearly as much as you would expect for that level of consumption. It did smoke a little, though, at WOT.
