I have an 87 mustang and im workin on getting it back in to good shape. One of the problems I'm having with it right now is the power mirror remote doesn't work properly it will tilt both the mirrors up but not left, right or down. Is this a fairly common problem? Also what is generally the most common thing that causes this to happen and how easy is it to fix?

Thanks in advance for your help

I've had a broken mirror switch since i bought my car in '02. Anytime you move the selector to either mirror, it just goes crazy and moves itself outward, even if you you try to adjust it. You could probably buy a new switch for it, but I just don't touch it and adjust my mirrors by hand. haha

You can try to take the switch apart and clean it. Maybe it is just gunked up and not contacting right. One of mine did that and then it worked fine after I cleaned it. There are some springs in it, so be careful if you do take it apart.

But the motor could also be out. There are 3 wires for each mirror... one common ground and one power to each motor. They work on reversing polarity to move the mirror in and out. You can test them first, if you want. But since both are acting the same way, I bet it is the switch.

Good luck!
