So Today in my troubleshooting process I bought a timing light.
I check my timing and it is running 21* retarded from my base of 16 advanced.
"Damn No wonder my car is running like hell this explains all the performance problems"
So i go to adjust the timing, I was going to take the distributor out and go up one tooth and adjust from there.
Well took the hold down off and tried to take it out. The thing will not budge!!
I even stood on the intake and the radiator support and pulled with all my might but the thing still will not budge!! I don’t know what to do.

First off, Obviously timing dos not adjust it self so what could have caused this? I am assuming what ever caused the timing to retard also is blocking the distributor in.
Secondly, how do I get it out?

Adjust the timing as close to what you want, lock it down. Get the car up to operating temp, shut down and then try. Heat will usually help.

The thing will not budge. The car was hot, I had to wear two layers of goves not to burn my elf.
The thing will not even twist.
What could have caused the problem?

Well that explains it all, the noise was somethign really f'd up in there. Nothing a leakdown and compression check woudl have found. Sounds like the drive gear going to the cam went to crap and is locking it in there. Try to get someone to turn the motor over by hand while you try pulling it out. That is some odd ****.

Take some carb cleaner and spray it around the base and let it soak in. Aftermarket parts or stock? Why do you want to move the dist. one tooth. That shouldn't be necessary?

Stock reman parts.
Well i wanted to move up one tooth because 21 degrees is a lot just to turn the distributer since it is already turned almost all the way to the advanced.

So you guys think the cam gear and the distibutor gear got out of alignment. Would I have to replace to Cam?

maybe not the cam gear is alot harder steel than a dist. gear. i had same problem once you can twist the rotor button i believe to the right while tapping or pulling on distributor good luck.
