I did alot of searches and none of the searches I did were similar to the problem I have.. Here's the problem short and sweet:

I have an '86 Coupe with a '90 5.0

Only thing done to the car: MSD6al ... constant wire ran to silinoid's constant power post.. Ground wire to chassis

events that led up to problem: installed 6al.. drove about 10 miles.. turned car off.. started car (car started fine) drove to get gas..turned car off.. turned car on.. (Car was very slow starting.. very weak start but she turned over) drove home.. turned car off.. cpl minutes later went to turn her on.. sluggish turning.. then click click click........ no power to start car.. but power to everything else..

Problem: She will start with a booster pack.. once booster pack is removed she runs like sh**.. and I noticed that when i turn the headlights on the tach pointer jumps up a little .. turn lights off tach pointer goes back down a little.. without the booster pack on..basically not driveable.

One thing I Did to see if it would remedy the problem: disconnected the msd6al completed and ran the wiring like I originally had it.. No change..

In a Nutshell:
With Booster on battery while running: Car runs basically 100%.. Bright lights.. everything works and car runs great
With No Booster (Booster only used to start it and then removed when running) on battery while running: Car runs like sh**.. lights are very dim.. tach jumps when i turn the lights on and off.. she sounds like she is going to die out. she bogs when i press the gas..

Any Ideas?

No volt tests or anything was done so far being that it is late and I will check it tomorrow.

Sounds like either the alt is bad or wiring going to/from alt needs some attention. Check fuses as well.

In addition, dont forget to check the things that your fingers touched before. Wouldnt it be easy if it was just a bad battery connection at the solenoid.................

Good luck.
