Anyone have their car proffessionally detailed to have the swirl marks and tiny scratches removed?? I wash my car every saturday and have been trying many meguiar items to get the swirl marks out.....I spend alot of time with polishes and waxes and fail to get any good results, so I am debating on whether or not it will be worth it for me to get it proffessionally detailed. For those of you that have had your car detailed were the swirl marks completely removed?? by the way I of course have a black car so they are most visible.....

Steve,

Before you spend the money and take a shot in the dark as to finding a "good" professional detailer let us know exactly what you have tried so far. Maybe we can make some suggestions that may help.

I've been using the same wax brands as I've always used, but now I put them on with a random orbital waxer, and the shine is much better, as well as less scratch and swirls being visible. A high-speed buffer also works wonders, but you have to be careful when using them by adding enough water as to not burn through the paint!

Listen to Bob before doing anything. Not many make me feel inadequate about my detailing skills, and he does. Don't spend all your dough if you don't have to, especially since most detailing places around are hacks (compared to what you can do on your own with proper know-how).

Also, check out www.autopia.org if you have time, you can learn TONS about detailing.

OK, thanks for the replies, and also sorry the avatar is so distracting lol not really........anyways I use the meguiars proffessional series fine cut cleaner and I have used the meguiars scratch X, I also went to a paint store which told me to use some black bottled stuff like black magic or something like that....anyways suppose to be like a liquid epoxy or something like that.......I also used some other meguiars proffessional series product don't remember which number because I think that is what made my car so bad in the first place when I used it with a rotary buffer, and I threw it away.....I have used the swirl remover products several times cause I know it takes more than once but I am starting to get frustrated with no results.......I enjoy cleaning my car very much and am willing to try things just don't know what to do next??? I am a scared of a high speed buffer I have one but think I may screw it up more I also have a rotary buffer......I prefer to use my good ol fashioned hands but will step it up if I have to....also to get back to my original question I guess you guys/gals are saying a detail shop wouldn't be worth it....Thanks for the help....by the way I am very cautious about washing the car only use the best mitt and wash it after every use and only use terry towels

No, I have thought about it but not too sure how easy it is and am scared to mess it up, Is it as easy as it seems just get a sponge soak it in water and squeeze water over the area while sanding with wet sand paper???

if you sjtu have swirl marks, tehre shoudl be no reason to wetsand it. remember, allways use the LEAST aggressive.

Whats up man? I had a really big scratch on the trunklid of my car and about 5 applications of rubbing compound finally took it out. Ofcourse it was all hazy after that. I used medium cut cleaner, fine cut cleaner, swirl remover, cleaner wax, and then gold class on it. Its still got a tad bit of a haze to it =/ Scratch is gone though. I wouldn't recommend the swirl remover, it doesn't seem to do much for me atleast. Your car looked pretty damn nice when I last saw it. I've been using your idea about when I wash the car, going side to side, and not in a circular motion. Seems to be helping! Depending on how deep the swirls are, the best luck i've had is with a good cleaner wax. if i get ambitious enough, I might use cleaner wax on my car, and then this meguiars polish and then gold class. but thats alot of work. Does polishing the car really help? I've never done it.

I can add some input here, as I'm wetsanding my 5.0 right now. it's black too.
The previous owner took it to a 'backyard paint shop' someplace, and there were bugs and orange peel galore in this thing. I, of course, didn't know that, cuz I bout the car at night. (stupid)
Anyway, I'm wetsanding with 1500 (NOT necessary with just swirl marks, always try the least aggressive and work your way up), then hitting it with cutting creme with a good strong buffer. Then, hitting it with swirl remover and a polishing pad. I'm taking my time, and am VERY pleased with the results. It's turning out very very well IMO. Just using some Meguir's NXT wax after that's all done to protect, and I have no scratches/swirls left.
I would try swirl remover, if your buffer is fast enough- Not enough RPM's and it won't work.
Also, the stock clearcoats are thinner generally than aftermarket paintjobs, because the factory puts on only as much as they need to. So, I would not recommend wetsanding/cutting a stock paintjob, unless you're VERY gentle, and have some experience.
I don't know the brand of the cremes I'm using, and I don't have pics yet, but when I do, and if you're interested, I can post them.
