Many of you will recoginize this 1/4 inch metal bit as part of the auto shifter on an early car (66).

It seems to be pressed into place and just falls out, leaving the shifter to move freely from park to 1st gear without pressing the button. The PO put on a new shifter before I bought the car to 'fix' the problem, but it's crap.

Does anyone make a better quality part, or how can I fix this one? This is a really lousy design made worse by the aftermarket.

Thanks in advance.
