So it looks like the previous owner installed the quarter window trim covers to hide the old faded trim. The problem is it looks like he used roofing caulking to put them on! Well one ended up coming loose while washing the car the other day so I just ripped the rest of it off.

My questions is I dont have the money for new glass and trim so I wanted to reuse the trim and reinstall it. Anyone have any tips to get this old material off?

put a couple layers of tape over the body and the glass portion of the windows. if the sander slips it wont eat through the tape.

Try a heat gun helpo soften the glue. Just be careful not to melt the molding. It may not work depending on how tough that glue is. The only other option is sanding, like already mentioned.
